I really don't splurge on clothing and accessories very often. I'm more of a get-the-most-bang-for-my-buck kind of girl than a save-and-save-and-save-and-save-and-buy-one-handbag one.

But when I started seeing Hunter boots around town and in the magazines last fall, I was intrigued.

Hunter wellingtons are made in Scotland and are considered to be the best wellies on the market- Even the queen wears them! They come in lots of different colors and you can buy short mid-calf boots or longer below-the-knee ones. Most pairs sell for about $115. I had always wanted a good pair of rain boots and I was seriously lusting after the long Hunter version. Plus, it has been a very rainy year and I had muddied up more than one good pair of shoes taking my daughter to school each morning.

I decided to splurge and buy myself a pair of Hunter boots.

And what a great splurge it has been. I've worn them on every rainy day- but they really came in handy during our recent big snow. When I saw these pictures, I realized the Hunter boots really were a great purchase.

I don't think I've ever felt so stylish while sledding!

I've seen Hunter boots on sale here and there, but if you're looking for a good deal, you'll have to be willing to take whatever color and style you can get. If you're thinking of ordering a pair, go with the glossy finish if you want traditional shiny wellingtons. I got the original finish and was a bit shocked when they arrived- The wax finish streaks when the weather is warm and made them look like a very well-worn pair of boots. I've gotten used to the finish now, but had I known about the glossy boots, I think I would have opted for those instead of the traditional.

Of course, there are lots of great, inexpensive rain boots on the market as well and I bet many of you have boots you absolutely love, but you know what? I'm not ashamed to admit it...
