Play Yard Tent Recall: 4 Things You Need to Know to Protect Your Baby

Cozy Crib TentA major recall of crib tents and play yard tents has a horrible story behind it. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is issuing yet another recall on the baby product made by Tots in Mind, a now defunct company, to try to get them out of homes. The tents have been blamed in the death of one baby and the catastrophic brain injury of another. And yet, parents still seem to be using them.

That's got the CPSC so concerned that they've convinced five retailers who once sold the tents to give money out of their own coffers to parents. Think you're in line for a refund? Here's what you need to know to get your money ... and more importantly, keep your child safe.

Bumbo Seat Scaring More Parents

bumbo recallI remember my first Bumbo. I propped up my tiny baby inside so I could take cute photos of her without her falling over. Sure I put it on top of the dining room table. Until I learned later that you really weren't supposed to do that. I didn't leave the room, and I was incredibly lucky that my baby didn't suffer a skull fracture due to my own stupidity. But not everyone was so lucky.

When the first cries went out about recalling the Bumbo seats, I thought, like many people, that it was kind of ridiculous that people are complaining about their baby being injured when they either left a baby alone, or put a baby in a Bumbo on top of the kitchen cabinet. We don't recall everything because someone is just not swift enough to read the directions (myself included in this assessment).

But now Bumbo is under attack again, and this time I'm kind of wondering if those cute little chairs might have been a bad idea, even when used properly.

ikea high chair recallThere's some bad news coming from everyone's favorite Swedish furniture retailer. IKEA has issued a voluntary recall of their ANTILOP high chairs. Apparently, there's a fall hazard due to a faulty buckle and consumers are being warned to stop using the unsound chairs immediately.

It's always a bit disarming when there's a recall of a baby product. Everyone only wants the best for their children and it's hard to hear that something parents use every single day, sometimes more than three times a day, is putting innocent young ones at risk.

Here's everything you need to know about the IKEA high chair recall:

Top Most Dangerous Baby Products: I Used 4 Out of 5

When I think of the "most dangerous" baby products, I tend to think of things like old-school baby walkers positioned next to an open stairway, pajamas coated in flame retardant, and lead-painted toys teeming with tiny, removable magnets.

According to an email I received from the folks at Brilliant Baby Products, however, it turns out the five most dangerous baby items are surprisingly common. At least that's what I'm telling myself, because I've used almost every item on the list.

(Forget mother of the year awards—apparently I'm gunning for mother of the decade.)

formula pulled from wal-martNot the story you want to hear about ever -- much less right in time for the holidays. But if you're feeding your baby formula, you might want to stop for a moment and take a look at what's happening in Lebanon, Missouri, where a 10-day-old baby has died. Avery Cornett was hospitalized after appearing lethargic and seemingly having stomach pains. Tests showed the baby had contracted a rare bacterial infection, Cronobacter sakazakii. Tragically, baby Avery died from the infection and now local health officials are trying to discover the source of the bacteria.

Naturally, this is where the formula comes in, as that is what baby Avery was eating at the time of his death.

Massive Little Tikes Toy Recall Due to Baby Choking (PHOTOS)

on Sep 29, 2011 at 1:42 PM

little tikes recallTragedy was barely averted when an 11-month-old baby choked on an oversized plastic nail from the Little Tikes Toy Workshop Set as it lodged in his throat. Luckily, he did make a full recovery, and now Little Tikes is recalling 1.6 million toys, including the workshop set and trucks that contain these plastic nails.

The Electronic Project Workshop, Little HandiWorker Workhorse, Home Improvements 2-Sided Workshop, Swirlin' Sawdust Workshop, and Black Pickup Truck With Tools all contain these plastic "nails" that have now resulted in two accidents, and are being recalled. If you have any of these toys, you should remove the nails immediately, and always consider the age requirements before allowing a baby or toddler to play with a toy with small parts.

So many times the names are not familiar to those of us who might receive them as gifts or we just grab something in the store without studying the packaging, so here are photos of the recalled toys so you can check out your toy box.

Michele Bachmann's John Quincy Adams Gaffe Is Proof She Can't Lead (VIDEO)

michele bachmann good morning americaIf you've been listening to just about anything she says, it's clear that Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's star may be falling just as quickly as it's risen. Given her recent "John" gaffes -- on John Wayne Gacy vs. John Wayne, then on John Quincy Adams possibly hopping in a DeLorean to not only hang out with his dad and George Washington as a Founding Father, but to also chill with Abe Lincoln and "work tirelessly until slavery was no more" -- it's almost as if she's trying to outdo each slip-up she makes, one after the other in quick succession. It's the kind of track record that practically puts blooper-pro boneheads like George W. Bush and Sarah Palin to shame. (In fact, Bachmann holds the the worst record of any of the presidential contenders for making false statements.) You almost feel bad for her.

b-nimble strollersIf you have a B-NIMBLE stroller, listen up. Britax, the company that makes the strollers, has today issued a voluntary safety recall on some B-NIMBLE stroller models.

Sadly, there is an issue where parents are wrongly assuming the brakes are on when they're not -- there's a "click" you hear when you press the brake pedal, but that doesn't necessarily mean the brake is engaged. I can see how that could be misleading and dangerous.

Here is everything you need to know about the recall.
