Sexy Valentine's Day Lingerie Plays Up Your Best Assets

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Feb 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Victoria's SecretValentine's Day is right around the corner, and there's just enough time to order a sexy surprise for you and your man to enjoy.

Lingerie can be a nightmarish thought to those of us who've had kids -- The key, I've found, is insisting on choosing it yourself.

That way, you can find naughty little nothings that accentuate the positives and hide the negatives. Forget what he likes; If you feel sexy, you'll both be happy!

Case in point: this Starry Babydoll (Victoria's Secret, $58). One push-up bra + one tummy-hiding skirt = one happy mama.

I have this ... um ... friend who owns this particular babydoll, and she loves it! It is actually her favorite lingerie set.

Want to see more V-Day lingerie that any mom could love? Read on ... Then tell me in the comments what kind of lingerie makes you feel sexy, now that you've had kids.

See How Scarlett Johansson Shows Her Love for Obama

I want to show my support for Obama, but I don't have a car -- so I can't get a bumper sticker. And I live in an apartment, so I can't put a little flag thingie in my front lawn. And most political t-shirts just don't quite look right with a blazer. If only they sold cute Obama-supporting swag at H&M!

Well, we're close.

The fashionistas have flocked to design some nifty swag for their favorite president: Check out the Runway to Win collection, designed by the likes of Tory Burch and Alexander Wu. The launch was hosted by Scarlett Johansson and Anna Wintour. Oh what, the celebrity thing hurts Obama's campaign? So what. Is it Obama's fault that fashion designers love him? Might as well embrace the love and make some campaign moneeeee -- and do it stylishly. 'Cause that's how Obama rolls. Here's a few highlights from the collection.

Rooney MaraRooney Mara has been channeling her Girl With a Dragon Tattoo character, Lisbeth Salander, on the red carpet lately.

Not my favorite look for the actress, but hey.

It's a money maker.

At a recent awards show, though, she was looking fabulous in an eyecatching emerald green dress.

It's a hot color among celebs lately, and I for one am loving it.

Emerald green is a flattering color on just about anyone, and it's definitely going to get you noticed.

Check out some affordable emerald green frocks after the jump -- then tell me this in the comments:

Would you wear an emerald green dress?

Parents Protesting Catholic School's Ban on Uniform Skirts Are Missing the Point

Posted by Jacqueline Burt

uniform skirtsJust to clarify: The point of making kids wear school uniforms is to guarantee they follow a certain dress code, right? I mean, I went to Catholic school for my entire childhood/adolesence and unless things have changed a LOT in the past ... er, bunch of years, that's what the uniform thing is all about. (Of course you can kick that theory up a notch, but we'll talk about methods of breaking young spirits some other time.)

So I don't really understand why parents at St. Bernadette's Catholic School in Connecticut are freaking out over the administration's decision to switch the girls' outfits from the traditional kicky plaid skirt/button-down blouse combo to khaki pants and a polo shirt.

Especially considering the reason WHY the school decided to update the uniform.

Kelly Clarkson's New Look Stuns at Super Bowl (VIDEO)

Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem at Super Bowl 46

Last night's Super Bowl was jam-packed with all sorts of fun stuff. Between gawking at how overly handsome Tom Brady is and laughing at one-too-many fantastic Super Bowl commercials, I have to admit I had a pretty good time watching all the action even though my Patriots lost. While the night had its fair share of surprises (thanks in part to M.I.A.'s rebellious addition to Madonna's halftime show), I'd have to say that the biggest one of 'em all was Kelly Clarkson's performance of the National Anthem. Not only was her voice fan-freakin'-tastic, but hellooooooo, do you see how amazing she looks?

Talk about a 180 from the Jessica Rabbit red dress at the American Music Awards, eh?

Nab That Jason Wu for Target: Your Shopping Strategy

Posted by Adriana Velez
on Feb 4, 2012 at 6:38 PM

jason wu targetIs it me, or does it seem like some sort of crazy coincidence that Jason Wu's Target line launches on Super Bowl Sunday? It's like they're giving the football widows something to do... anyway, if you wait until the game actually starts to pick up your own super-femme dresses and separates you are going to be much too late! Rumor has it this line will fly out of stores even faster than that Missoni did.

I didn't mind missing out on the Missoni for Target. But Jason Wu? Mama like! Mama need. So I'm planning my strategy to nab me some Wu before it all sells out.

Spring Inspiration From J.Crew

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Feb 4, 2012 at 4:35 PM

J.CrewI'm totally in the mood for spring shopping, probably because our winter here in Nashville has been unusually mild. Already, the daffodils are starting to bloom in my backyard!

So I was psyched when the latest J.Crew cataog showed up in my mailbox.

J.Crew always has great ideas on how to style your basics so that they look current -- and this issue is no exception.

It's all about color this spring, and unexpected color combinations.

I love everything about this photo to the left -- The addition of a bright blazer to your spring wardrobe can liven up a basic button down shirt and jeans.

And I'm crazy about the red sandals.

Want to see more inspiration to help you update your closet for the upcoming warmer weather?

Mad Men-inspired collection at Banana RepublicOver the last three months or so, I've completely fallen in love with Mad Men. I don't know where I was for the last four seasons, but I'm happy to report that I'm now completely caught up on all of the mint julep drinking, affair-having fun and highly anticipating the season 5 premiere on March 25. Banana Republic seems to be excited too, as the store just announced that they're working with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant for a second Mad Men-inspired capsule collection, launching in stores on March 1.

Hell-freakin'-yes! The first collection was so unbelievably chic and sexy, I'm just dying to see what happens this time around. Lucky for us, Banana has posted a few of the looks from their upcoming 40-piece line on their blog.

How fun is the patterned cardigan with those darling crop pants and dainty accessories (right)? And the male model's retro polo? He looks like a modern-day Donald Draper!

Kim Kardashian & Lea Michele Can Teach Us a Thing or Two About Showing Some Leg (PHOTOS)

Posted by Emily Abbate
on Feb 2, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Kim Kardashian wears blue slitted maxi skirtIs it just me, or are slits absolutely everywhere lately? I don't think I've EVER bought something with a slit myself, but suddenly slitted maxi skirts and long dresses are popping up in all of my favorite stores, and I'm diggin' it. It looks like I'm not alone, either. Celebs are loving them too. Check out Kim Kardashian (right) wearing a beautiful high-waisted blue slitted maxi skirt out in Miami yesterday. Man, what I'd do to be in the Florida sun right now!

Back to the skirt, though. It's absolutely perfect. Kim wore this gem the right way. That's the kicker here. Yes, slits can be fun. However, when it comes to showing a little leg, there are handful of DOs and a whole slew of DON'Ts.

What do I mean by don'ts? Well, here. Let me start with a little example from Glee star Lea Michele:

Sneak Peek of Kardashian Swimwear Shows It's Even Sexier Than We Thought

Posted by Emily Abbate

Kim Kardashian swimwearIt's really hard for me to accept the notion that swimsuit season is just around the corner. Hell, I'm still working on getting rid of those few extra holiday pounds. While I may not be ready for wet summer fun, it seems like the Kardashian gals are. Yesterday, Kim tweeted a sneak peek of her fresh out of a photo shoot wearing one of the suits from their Spring Kardashian Kollection swim line at Sears. Let me tell you something, from what I can see -- I adore it. Can you say sexy?! Kim looks dynamite.

Seriously, the suit Kim's wearing seams to have all of the basics I look for when I'm shopping for that dreaded bikini. Except honestly, I just haven't had the kahunas to buy something that bright ... well ... ever.
