It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.
This Week's Secret:
My newborn can sleep through the night but I was told not to let him by some people. I was told to make him wake up to eat every 2-3 hours. He is hard to wake up and I'm tired, so I like to let him sleep. — anonymous
We all have secrets and opinions—so thanks to this brave mom for sharing her honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation nonjudgmental!

I would let him sleep if he was healthy enough, like if he wasn't jaundiced or whatever. Now, my son woke up every 2-3 hours. He was a big, hungry, baby.. and he was jaundiced so I made sure he was fed so the jaundice would flush out of his system.
I don't know if I would do it every night or not.
My DD slept through the night and I never woke her up My doctor and I felt that she would not starve herself. She was perfectly fine and it made being a new mom easier. And she still sleeps through the night I think it helped.
The first few weeks, my daughter slept eight hours a night. I never woke her up. She was doing fine, getting chubby, wetting plenty of diapers, etc so I was just grateful for the sleep. My boobs, not so much. She's four months old now and during the day, I'll wake her every four hours if she doesn't wake up on her own to deal with engorgement. The boobs have at least figured out her night schedule finally!
Depends. Sleeping through the night is supposed to mean 5 hours. If your baby sleeps one or two stretches of 4-5 hours that's fine.
However... a newborn sleeping 7-8 hours isn't normal or healthy. It also can jeopordize your breastmilk supply to go that long.
Hell no, I wouldnt let him sleep through the night!
I did however let him sleep four hours instead of waking him to nurse every 2 - 3.
totqally...they know when they are hungry, I dont have to tell her..
I would, but I was told by my Pedi that I shouldn't do that until she was 12lbs.
As long as the baby is gaining the normal amount of weight and is content, I would. Evey baby is different
I depends. IF baby was gaining weight well and I was confident in my milk supply, then yes. If a newborn is not breastfeeding at least 8-12 times in 24 hours in those first few weeks they may not bring in a full milk supply. If I needed to wake baby during the night to ensure he got enough milk and I was making enough then I would. If I had plenty of milk, he was nursing at least 8-10 times in the rest of the day, then I'd let him sleep as long as he wanted at night!
My kids slept all night since the day after they came home from the hospital...I let them sleep when ever they wanted to.. they were good babies...no heath problems either... actually, they slept all the time till they were about 6 months old..That's when it changed
