Meet first-time mom starburst1680. She's sharing the roller coaster ride of her first year of motherhood. Check back every week for all the emotion and exhaustion — right up until Kathryn Grace's first birthday.
Week 12:
My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day early. Last Tuesday night, my mom babysat Kathryn so we could have a good date night.
We went out to a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and then saw Avatar in 3-D IMAX. It was the third time my husband had seen it, but the first for me. Then we came home and enjoyed a nice night together and my mom dropped Kathryn off in the morning. It was really nice to have a night with just my husband and I. I love spending as much time with Kathryn as possible but I think we needed a night together without her.
What was the first night out like for you and your SO after the baby had been born?
(We're celebrating starburst168's first year with baby, so thanks for keeping your judgments about parenting choices to yourself!)

the first nigth out came about a year and a half later after baby arrived, we dropped her off at her godmothers house, then we went back home and did nothing, he fell asleep and left me there awake thinking about how my baby was doing and bored =-( so not a fun date night might i add
I don't really remember going out with the first kids...I'm sure we did but only when we drove 8 hours to visit my in-laws. Most of those first years are a blur (we had 3 kids right in a row).
With my youngest our first "date" was when she was almost 3. We went out for our 9th anniversary in January 2009. She turned 3 that April. We don't have family and friends that will readily watch our kids. They are a handful (just by the fact that there are 4 of them) and my dad won't watch them until they are potty trained. We haven't been on a "date" since that night and have only gone out without kids for grocery/Christmas shopping (a couple of hours at most).
I can't even remember our first date night. It might have been for my work Christmas party. Even now we don't get date nights very often. My in laws are always willing to watch the boys but because my husband's grandfather is really ill, my mother in law spend a lot of time at his house with him and grandma. We are getting out in a couple of weeks for an early birthday gift for dh. I can't wait.
