Meet first-time mom starburst1680. She's sharing the roller coaster ride of her first year of motherhood. Check back every week for all the emotion and exhaustion — right up until Kathryn Grace's first birthday.
Week 11:
We took Kathryn on her first road trip this week. We went to visit my husband's cousin and his family. He has a wife and 3 kids: 3 ½ year old boy-girl twins and a 6-month-old little boy. It was about a two hour drive each way and Kathryn did great. She slept the whole time in the car both ways. The 6-month-old was just fascinated with Kathryn and wanted to just watch her and touch her. It was cute to see them interact a little.
My husband made Kathryn giggle for the first time (awake) yesterday. He was just holding her and bouncing and making the same sound over and over and she was smiling a lot. He kept doing it and she giggled. I was at work so unfortunately I missed it but I'm going to try doing the same thing he was doing and see if she will do it again for me.
Challenges & Concerns:
I think we are starting to fall into a bit more of a schedule. Maybe not a formal schedule yet but definitely more of a routine. There are two times she eats at the same time every day and I'm starting to keep track of all her feedings to look for patterns. The next step is to keep track of her sleeping schedule but I think we'll get eating more scheduled and then work on sleep.
How old was your baby when you took them on their first road trip?
(We're celebrating starburst168's first year with baby, so thanks for keeping your judgments about parenting choices to yourself!)

Impressive on a 2 hour car ride and not needing to stop.
My oldest was right around 3 weeks when we made our first trip 'home' it was for my baby shower that my mom was throwing and it was a 2 1/2 hour trip. Dh was more nervous than I was and B did really well the first hour and a half or so then he needed fed and I was nursing him then so we had to find a place to pull over so I could nurse. I think the trip home was uneventful though and he made it the whole way without needing to stop.
I honestly can't remember how old my youngest was, but I would say around a month or two.
Very Impressive!
We went to Busch Gardens, about an hour and a half each way-and he slept too! PLUS he was content for the entire ten hours we spent at the park! Nothing short of an act of God, lol.
Oh I forgot, he was about nine weeks for that trip, he's 13 weeks now. I love reading about your little one!
Yeah, we didn't have to stop at all. She has always been really good in the car but I wasn't sure how she would do for such a long trip. I fed her right before we left both times so it worked out well. Thanks for the comments :-)
my youngest was 3 months, and it wasnt too bad. she slept most of the time.
