Meet first-time mom starburst1680. She's sharing the roller coaster ride of her first year of motherhood. Check back every week for all the emotion and exhaustion — right up until Kathryn Grace's first birthday.
Week 13:
Last night we decided to try to start transitioning Kathryn to her crib. She has been sleeping in a pack ‘n play in our room since birth. We didn't really have any reason for choosing yesterday to do it other than "we're going to have to do it sometime."
With her approaching the weight limit on the bassinet part of the pack ‘n play and sleeping pretty good most nights, we figured last night was as good of a time as any. I was prepared to camp out in her room so I could get up every 15 min or so (to a point) to comfort her and try to get her to doze off again. We have had a few nights like that n the pack ‘n play where we go for a few hours without a long stretch of sleep. However, knock on wood, she did very well. I fed her when I got home, like I always do, and then laid her down. She was not quite asleep but very close. She slept for five hours and woke up about 12, as she usually does, to eat. After she ate, she went right back to sleep and woke up at her normal time. I couldn't believe it was so easy! I thought for sure she would not sleep as well her first night in her own room and a bigger bed as she had been in our room.
When did you start putting your baby in the crib? How smooth was the transition for you?
(We're celebrating starburst168's first year with baby, so thanks for keeping your judgments about parenting choices to yourself!)

We had to transition him to the crib sort of early because he was so big and active he shook the bassinet to the point that we worried he might actually knock it over, lol! So I believe he was right at 6 or 7 weeks (maybe 8 at the farthest) when we moved him into his crib. He seemed to struggle with the transition for a night or two, but not drastically.
We didn't have to transition our first. He slept in his crib from day one but with our second, he refused to sleep in his crib so we had to go out and buy him a bassinet and he stayed in that until shortly before 3 months old and then he took to the crib without any problems.
The video is adorable, btw. Thank you for sharing it with us.
we transitioned our daugther when she was around 4 months, she would be sleeping with us but between her and hubby they would kick me out of bed so one night i got tired and put her in bed one night and it went well, there were times she didn't want to sleep but other times she was good and i was a hapy mommy =-D
