Meet starburst1680, brand new first-time mom to Kathryn Grace. She will be sharing with us the roller coaster ride of her first year of motherhood. Check back every week for all of the emotion and exhaustion — right up until Kathryn's first birthday.
Week 6:
We finally finished up the last pack of newborn diapers and have moved up to size 1. They look so big on her but they fit and they'll hold more (yay!).
Kathryn's umbilical cord stump finally fell off!! I'm so excited to give her her first real bath. I also had been kind of hesitant about putting her in any shirts with pants because 1) I didn't want the pants to rub on the stump and 2) I was nervous about her shirt lifting up and the stump rubbing on something or someone and irritating it. So now she can wear whatever and I don't have to worry about it.
We also finally figured out her sleep but I'm not sure what it was we figured out. She will now sleep in her pack ‘n play all night. However, she only sleeps 3-4 hours at a time, we are not getting any of the long stretches we would get sometimes when she was sleeping in the swing. At least I get to sleep in my bed though. And it is 3-4 hours of sleep, not just 3-4 hours from the start of one feeding to the start of the next. I don't know what it was we changed that worked though!
Challenges & Concerns:
I have to go back to work tomorrow night and I'm not looking forward to it. I know Kathryn will be in good hands because she will either be with my husband, mom, sister or mother-in-law but I just hate that I have to leave her for 8 hours a day. I'm sure we will fall into a routine after a week or two but those first weeks are going to be especially hard.
Was it difficult for you to go back to work after having your baby?
We're celebrating starburst168's first year with baby, so thanks for keeping your judgments about her parenting choices to yourself!

It is definitely a struggle to go back to work. I am very lucky that I have a great home day care provider. She is wonderful with my little guy. I do miss him during the day, but I think he prefers a happy mom who is not stressed about his health care and the bills being taken care of since I'm working.
shes very pretty
