Baby of the Week: Avery

A weekly post to help us get to know some of our CafeMom cuties ...

Who: Avery Scott, 5 months old, son of nikki_novocaine. Avery was born September 2, 2009, but the contractions started at 6:30 a.m. on September 1st. I didn't go to the hospital until 5:30 that night, spending most of the day arguing with the nurse in my OB's office, calling multiple times before they finally said that I could go to the hospital if I thought it was that serious.

So I went in, and Avery Scott was born at 12:39 a.m. on the 2nd, with no pain medications. The only problem was his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice, and he was on oxygen for the first half-hour of his life. Both pregnancy and birth went extremely well, which surprised all my doctors since I am a Type 1 diabetic.

How long does he sleep?

He usually falls asleep around 10 or 11 and sleeps through the night. Occasionally he wakes around 5 or 6 for a bottle. He usually wakes up about 9 if he sleeps all night and is awake for about an hour or two, then takes a half-hour nap and another half-hour nap about 3 or 4 hours after that.

What's his latest milestone?

On Christmas Day he started grabbing for toys, which was exciting because he didn't really show any interest in toys or anything until then. He's also getting to be quite a professional at holding himself up.

What makes him smile?

Kisses! He laughs when we kiss him or make the kissie noise. Also, Mommy and Daddy doing silly things, and oddly enough, his feet.

What will his future career be?

Asking the people in the room just now, a friend says a professional model. I personally think he will become some kind of artist, or do some type of work dealing with his hands, since he's very interested in his hands and studying objects.
