New Mom Secrets: I Hate When People Hold My Baby

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.

This Week's Secret:

I hate it when other people hold my baby. I always try to make up an excuse like "she needs to be fed," or "she's tired." I know it sounds rude, but I'm just very protective. — anonymous

I gues I'm weird because unless the person is really dirty or a complete idiot, I like letting other people hold my baby.  It's like a break for me.

I will be the same way when my daughter arrives..My husband tells me that only close close family can hold her for the 1st few months! I guess I will be not wanting to share her cuz they grow up waaaaaaaaay to fast, I want to be the one that bonds with her the most!

I don't mind letting people hold my baby...but it definitely depends on who it is.

I have two little ones and with my two year old I never really minded, I have a 5 week old that has RSV right now and I realize how by one of the kids kissing her or someone not washing there hands she is a sick little girl. I know it's not any one's "fault" but I wish i was more careful and don't want to let any one hold her now.

i cant stand people holding my baby, i dont mind if my aunt or uncle who are nurses hold him, and my mom of course, but i really cant stand andybody else to hold him, theres just too many germs that come from certain people. i havent went to church in quit a awhile because everybody thinks its ok to come up and just try to hold him and kiss him, i know its church but  people still have germs.

i can't stand it when people hold my little one. I always thought something was wrong me lol, I'm just so posessive over him. Family tells me " oh i got him go relax or whatever" I never leave his side

Newborns show increased levels of stress the more they are passed around - and they are more likely to get dehydrated, lose weight too fast, etc. In our house, no one but me, my husband, & our son (3 years old - with assistance) will hold our baby for about a week or more. The midwife will get to hold baby for necessary exams that she can't do with me or my husband holding the baby. This pisses my in-laws off (not my parents 'cause it's what they taught me) but I don't really care. It's my baby.

We also go Diaper-Free, which is an excellent way to deter random holding requests: "Sure, you can hold him, but he hasn't peed recently and he's not wearing a diaper..." This turns off all but the most loving and patient people. I figure if they don't mind my kid peeing or pooping on them, they're probably pretty cool.

Yes. I hate when People hold my child. I dont trust people and I feel that he is safe only with me and his dad holding him.

I hate for my bf family to hold my son...idk why...but it really irritates me to know that they even want to hold the baby...and it def makes me cringe to actually see them holding him...but I don't want to be mean...but geez its hard...
