New Mom Secrets: I Hate Breastfeeding

secrets

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets—we won't tell.

This Week's Secret:

I hate breastfeeding. I've chosen to breastfeed because I feel it's best for my baby, but I hate doing it. My baby has a hard time latching, gets easily distracted, is fidgety, and rarely stays awake but even when it's not a battle, I still don't like it. — anonymous

With my oldest it took about 3 weeks before we got it together. I was in pain and he wouldn't latch on. After we figured it out it was the best experience ever. I loved to sit and watch him eat. I hated to quit. I am expecting #3 now and I cannot wait to nurse my new little one. It saves so much time too: I never had to mess with preparing, storing and washing bottles.

Breastfeeding was a pain to learn how to do "right," ie, as in without it hurting like hell! And the little guy and I got thrush, which was horrible--the pediatrician gave us Nystatin, which did....nothing. Two weeks of praying that the Nystatin would somehow magically kick in and work a miracle....it never did.DIflucan, however....24 hours and thrush was G.O.N.E. Now the little guy's about to be 6 months and breastfeeding is now one of my favourite times of the day, getting home from work and nursing him. Good job for trying and hey, if it doesn't work out....that's why God invented formula! :)

Oh, and for the distracted-baby part, you might want to look into getting a Nursing necklace....they're heavy-duty necklaces designed to be able to be tugged on and played with by little guys/girls. And some of them are really pretty pieces of jewlery. I got one from (I think it was ) stonesofhealing.com, the lady that makes them is in Arizona. Anyhow, it helped me! I was sick of him trying to find out exactly how far he could streeeeetttttccchh my nipple out to have a look around. Good Luck! :)

I got mastitis pretty early on. It was very painful and my nipples got all scabbed :( I chose to do both FF and BF at that point because at the worst point of my mastitis, she wasn't getting enough breast milk. We continued doing that for a long time and it worked very well. I got a break and she is a very healthy girl.

Not that I didn't enjoy it, but it did hurt like a SOB at first. my nippple cracked and bled and it hurt so bad to nurse, but even in pain I liked the closeness with my daughter and knowing I was giving her what was best for her.

At times I hate it.  At times I like it.  Mostly it's just something I do to take care of her.  When they get older is when I really hate it.  The constant latching off at any sound drives me nuts.  Especially when they do it during letdown, and milk sprays everywhere.  But I would hate formula feeding even more.  I know that for sure.  I had to do it starting at about 4 months with my second.

i dont think i would have said that but ill never know how it felt really so

i hate breastfeeding.. i feel like sometimes i dont know if my daughter eats enough she is gaining weight and peeing good an everything but sometimes it takes her hours to get in a full feeding because she is so slow and falls asleep while nursing. but if when she falls asleep i try and put her to sleep she will wake up and want to continue nursing. this happens 4 to 5 times within a feeding and usually she wont fall asleep until she has nursed on and off for 2 hours. i am going to keep trying because i know that it is the best for her. the thing that really bothers me is that i have no time for myself or the house or my boyfriend (the babys dad). i feel tired constantly and i know that he feels left out of our lives sometimes.
