Tell me what you think about this one ...

A teddy bear made out of a placenta.

But that's not the weirdest part.

The weirdest part is that you make this yourself. From a kit that you buy. That involves the tanning and sewing of a human organ. An organ that was inside you. That your baby will probably suck on and put in his mouth thousands of times. Is that enough?

It is for me. My placentas are long gone, and thank goodness.

The teddy bear is part of the sustainable design Doing It for the Kids exhibition put on by [re]design. The bear is the brainchild of designer Alex Green. Wouldn't you just love to know where he was and what he was doing the moment he came up with this one?

In case you're curious what's involved, the site Inhabitots explains that after you cart your placenta home from hospital, it must be cut in half and rubbed with sea salt to cure it. After it is dried out, it is treated with an emulsifying mixture of tannin and egg yolk to make it soft and pliable. Then, you craft it into a cuddly sleepytime toy.
