It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets—we won't tell.
This Week's Secret:
"If my baby poops—and I'm planning to give her a bath in the next half hour anyway—I don't change her diaper. It doesn't happen that often and it's never given her a rash or anything, but it still makes me feel lazy sometimes. —anonymous
We all have secrets and opinions—so thanks to this brave mom for sharing her honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation nonjudgmental!

I *always* change DS's diaper as soon as he poops. He gets uncomfy and to me, I wouldn't want to sit in my own poop for even 5 minutes!
DD never cries when she's wet or poopy that's because she learned early on that the moment she make a 'mess' mommy would clean it. I wouldn't want to sit in my own 'mess' why would I let her?
Sometimes i wait a few minutes to make sure ds is done-- one too many times i've started changing him only to be sprayed with poop -- But i never let him sit longer than a few minutes in it--I wouldn't want to sit in wet/dirty pants.
In the middle of the night even, if we dont change our princess' poopy diaper immediatly she'll get a blistery rash. I dont know why, that usually only happens when she has anything cowmilk-based. So no, we dont let her go more than a few minutes in a dirty diaper.
I always wait 5 minutes after I first hear the poop before I change it. I learned my lesson with my first. I'm not gonna get sprayed again!
Never never never never never leave your child sitting in their own feces. Once you have ascertained that they have actually finished going (ahhh the trials and tribulations of motherhood) there is no excuse to leave your child sitting in it. None. I can't even imagine someone not cleaning ME up if I were incapable of doing so myself...how could you do that to your child? 30 min. is waaay to long.
I change it the second I realize he's pooped and I always have. If I don't my son gets really bad rashes, plus he'll pull his poop out and play in it.
I voted "it depends." I'll sometimes wait about 5 minutes max and work the baby's legs in that time just to make sure they've gotten all the poop out.
However, I'd never leave my baby sitting in their own poop for longer than that. If you're going to give your baby a bath anyway, then just GIVE THEM A BATH! Don't make them sit in poop for 30 minutes. That's just cruel and lazy. If you don't feel like dirtying a new diaper, then at the very least wipe them off and let them lay on a towel without a diaper unti you're ready to bathe them.
Why are some moms so damned LAZY when it comes to diaper changes? Sheesh.
The longest i have ever left my son in a poopy diaper was like 3 minutes, to make sure he was done pooping. I would NEVER leave my son in a poopy diaper for any amount of time. That is soo wrong. I can't even imagine letting my baby sit in his own poop.
I believe in karma, and I hope when I am 90 years old nobody leaves me in a poopy diaper.
