My baby and I took swimming "lessons" last summer at the local Y, and I plan to continue them this summer. However that doesn't mean I'll feel any more secure when she's playing around her grandmother's pool.
That's why the child immersion alarm system from Safety Turtle that Cool Mom Picks featured is so neat. It's a little wristband with a cute turtle on it that your baby wears. It comes with a base station (the alarm) that you can either plug in or use with a battery pack. If the turtle goes underwater, the alarm goes off.
At about $270, it's pretty expensive, but I think it's worth it. For more information or to buy it, visit the Safety Turtle web site.

what if the baby chews on it and gets it wet? im sure my kids could make it think it was in a pool ....
personally i can imagine trusting something like that and letting a small child out of your site around a pool
no way no how would my child be out playing by a pool with out my eyes glued to them
Riosmommy, I honestly think it's designed well enough to only go off when submerged, not just wet. ;)
Personally, I hate things like this. Not because I don't think they could save lives, but because they generally just serve to make parents lazy asses who then think, "Hey, I don't have to watch him. If I falls in, the alarm will go off."
I think it's great if your going to have your kids around any kind of water. Anything could happen. Yes, you plan on having your eyes glued to him/her but what if your SO askes you to look at him doing something. That's all it takes..... Just ask my friend....
Yeah..I dont agree with this. Why would you let your BABY out of your sight at a POOL long enough for the thing to get submerged? Babies gasp when water hits their face, so by the time you got to them, it would already be too late. $270 is a good price for lazy parents I guess.
Infant Rescue Floating! If you live in Texas ALL YMCAs have free infant rescue floating classes once amonth. Its great! It teaches your baby age 7 months to 18 months that if the fall in to the pool how to roll onto there backs and to scream and cry untill some one pulls you out of the water! It also works if they fall into the bath tub! If you live in another state call and ask about the class its worth you time!
I think that nothing can replace an attentive parent, and things like this can create a flase sense of security. (same thing for infant rescue floating, arm floaties etc.)
NOTHING replaces supervision. Nothing. I'm taking my baby to infant swim classes simply so that we can have more fun when we're in the pool TOGETHER. This device is really disturbing to me.
