Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall, Jack and Jill, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, This Little Piggie Went to Market. Any of those sound familiar? Even if you don't own a Mother Goose Book, chances are you know several Mother Goose nursery rhymes by heart—whether from your own childhood or because you've already started singing them to your baby.

My baby already sings Baa Baa Black Sheep and Row Row Row Your Boat, which is also a Mother Goose classic. Who knew?

Without Mother Goose, there would be no Little Bo Peep or blind mice or old women living in shoes. There would be no men in tubs, no Muffets on tuffets, and no pat-a-cakes or wishing on stars. And that would be a very sad thing for babies everywhere—and the mothers who rock them.

Today, May 1, is Mother Goose Day. Sing and clap and celebrate. Your baby will love it.

What's your baby's favorite nursery rhyme?

My son loves Itsy bitsy spider and Twinkle twinkle the best.

My oldest loves to sing them all. He is constantly singing at least one of them pretty much all day. The first one he learned and we loved to hear him sing was "Twinkle Twinkle" and now he sings them to his little brother which makes it even more adorable.

Twinkle Twinkle!!  My 2 year old will walk up to you and demand that you "twinkle me!"  which means you have to sing twinkle twinkle with her!!

My son loves Baa Baa Black Sheetp, and Humpty Dumpty. You just have to be careful where you say the Humpty Dumpty poem because he will sit up/stand up real straight and then when you say "had a great fall" he falls back...hard...without bracing himself. It cracks us all up!
