M.I.A. on the December 2008
cover of Spin
Okay, so that's not how it's spelled, but that's supposedly how it's pronounced. According to the birth certificate (obtained by TMZ), the bouncing baby boy the singer M.I.A. gave birth to (just a few days after her awesome performance at the Grammys) is named Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.
When the baby was born in February, a representative for M.I.A. and Benjamin Bronfman, the baby's father, said the couple would not release the baby's name. And when the press reported that the baby had been named "Ickitt," M.I.A. emphatically denied it, and wrote (in all caps) on her MySpace blog:
"My baby is not called Ickitt, Pickit or Lickit thank you very much to all the Hollywood press. He's a baby, he don't need press. "I didn't release the baby name because I didn't think it was news!!!!" she continued. "But I will be back with something news worthy soon, till then go pick on Apple. Satchel, and Moon Unit."
Is there a huge difference between "Ickitt" and "Ikyhyd"? Do you think M.I.A. should have defended her child's name from the get-go instead of denying it? What do you think of the name? What do you think a good nickname would be?
