Baby Clothes: Cool Storage Tip

My friend cafemama shared this really great baby clothing tip she came across on Parent Hacks. I think it's so smart and wanted to pass it along to you. Not only is it a great way to organize clothing, but it's also eco-friendly and super cheap!

First of all, if you're not buying your diapers in bulk, you should be. It's a great way to save money especially if you shop at a local store. The natural food store near me gives a 15 percent discount when you buy an entire box of diapers—four packs, which your baby will blow through in no time (no pun intended).

Now, what to do with the boxes? Recycle some them of course. But also reuse: Use them to store your baby's clothes by size.

Here's the tip:

"I wish I had thought of this back when I was sorting through old baby clothes. A friend from a baby class told me that she packs her daughter's newborn clothes in the empty newborn size diaper box. We get our diapers from Sam's Club and have large diaper boxes that would have been perfect for this! Now all her newborn clothes are in the newborn diaper box, 0-3 months in size 1, etc."

This is such a great idea and one I wish I had used when I packed to move. It makes it so much easier to sort through clothes.

We've done this since we had our first son in early 2006. I love that we haven't had to buy storage containers at all for them. :)

we have those vacuum pack things so we have been using those but i love the diaper box idea!

ive been doing this since my oldest was born. they have the handles on the side that make it easier to carry.

i was doing this with our daughters clothes when she outgrew them but now i have them in storage bins that we had around the house that were empty. Because the diaper boxes got to be too much and we dont have alot of space. Also she is 3 1/2 so thats a lot of clothes that i have saved that way since she was born. Its a great idea though, i'm glad other people are thinking about it too!

I did this with my son's clothes. I will probably do it with this baby but I will place a garbage bag inside the box as a liner so that bugs don't get into the clothes. I didn't need to do this with my son but this baby's outgrown clothes will be going into storage out in a shed so the extra protection is a must.

I send all of my sons outgrown clothes to a friend of mine so I turn the box inside out, line it with a garbage bag, pack the clothes in it, and ship the box.

I love this idea! I wish I had thought of it. I started using the new BIG Ziploc bags. I can label them with the clothing size and still be able to see the clothes if I'm trying to hunt something down later.

This seriously helps when your friends give you garbage bags (yes, garbage bags) of their kids old clothes. It gave me something to do while I was nesting. I would weed out the ones I didn't want, and sort the rest according to size. Until I had enough diaper boxes, though, they kinda went in other trash bags ;)
