This cutie makes me want a dog even more!
Cafe Kristen just got a puppy and I'm totally jealous. I'd love to get a Bernese Mountain Dog, but right now I don't have any pets. I've heard that sometimes having a new baby and a new dog (or an old dog) can be complicated—for the dog, for the baby, and probably for the parents too! But most people have no problem working it all out. One thing I've never heard: After having a baby, some new parents start hating their pets.
"The moment my child entered my world, there was no more room in it for my dog ... this is the hate that dare not speak its name." (From an article in Time magazine.)
"We had been warned that the pets would get the shaft once the baby becomes the focal point of your existence. What I was not prepared for was the depth of my hatred for beings I once claimed to love, and how quickly the switch happened." (From Babble.com)
Huh? Since I'm pet-less, I haven't been in this situation, but I don't understand why there isn't enough love to go around. Am I missing something?
If you do have a dog, and you're not feeling that same pre-baby love, there's a book you might consider turning to before you turn out your dog: And Baby Makes Four: A Trimester-by-Trimester Guide to a Baby-Friendly Dog. It's not too late to read it even though your baby is already here.
Do you have pets? Did you still love them after your baby joined your family? If not, why do you think that is?
