It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new
baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all
the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets—we
won't tell.
This Week's Secret:
"When my daughter was 10 months old, my husband drove our car while I sat in the back holding her, and seatbelted in, because we didn't have a car seat—my mother had borrowed it without letting us know. We drove for about 10 miles. Terrible I know! —anonymous
We all have secrets and opinions—so thanks to this brave mom for sharing her honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation nonjudgmental!

If its an emergency call an ambulance. I cant believe you would even think about it.
Our town has one total ambulance and at the time it was 2 hours away. I figured that out as soon as i got to the hospital. so if i would have waited for an ambulance he wouldn't be here to this day. so yea i drove and my dh held our son its not like our hospital is 50 miles away its like 2 miles and plus whats the diffrence when your in an amblance you just hold your child anyway. thats what they made me do. they made me lay on the bed and hold my ds while holding his oxygen on him. he wasn't even strapped in i was
now it is against the law to do this , in an er I can see it but learned my lesson the month before it became law when a horse ran into my car, my daughter was 1/12 and son 3 thank god they weren't hurt. my son was sitting in front next to me I was driving my Mom was holding my daughter when out of nowhere the horse ran into me. lesson learned from then on carseats!! this was 28 years ago. since then it has only two times without a car seat when I had to take my husband to the er , he was having a heart attack and I had to go 5 blocks to the hospital he thought he pulled a muscle so he drove and I held my grandson. the second was when my grandson had a seizure at 2 weeks old
I wish people would mind their own business, especially judgmental mothers (they are the worse!). Car seats are a relatively new invention, are you saying that my parents and grandparents were horrible because they did not use a car seat? The world is not more dangerous nowadays, but you do hear more about it because of the media where news are reported as they happen. I hope to catch some of you "perfect" mothers doing something stupid so I too can call the cops on you. Car seats are the best, but to criticize someone for not using them is not nice - why not stick together as oppose taking pleasure in tearing apart other mothers? Boy am I glad I have friends who do not engage in mommy wars with others.
My son split his head open down to the bone and he rode safely in his carseat with me by his side holding a rag to his head! If I were in this situation (I've been in similar) I would have sent my husband to the store to buy a new one... I just watched the "drive safely" video on youtube, babies fly out of your arms in the mildest of car accidents...
I've done it once before and I dare someone to tell me I was wrong for it. I had taken my son out in his stroller and while out we got stuck in a freezing icy downpour (it wasn't bad when we left, only after we'd been out). I don't have a car, I have a carseat for him of course but in this situation we were stranded outside and my child's health was at stake. We were offered a ride and you can bet I took it even though his seat wasn't with us, which is better, stranded out in the icy rain, or taking a short drive with your child not in a seat?
