The British rapper M.I.A. gave birth to a baby boy last week (she went into labor after the Grammys), and she made an announcement on her MySpace blog saying that her baby is "healthy, fine, beautiful, and the most amazing thing on this planet."
Earlier this month, Erykah Badu gave frequent updates via Twitter throughout the labor and post-delivery of her daughter Mars Merkaba.
My friend just announced the birth of her baby on Facebook—she used her Blackberry to text it from the delivery room. And some people go all out and share their baby's birth with the whole world by posting a show-all video on YouTube.
Other, more old-fashioned types send out birth announcements or make phone calls.
I never sent out birth
announcements and I kind of regret it, but I just didn't have the time
or energy. I don't know how people manage to get them out before their
kid graduates from high school.
How did you inform the world that your baby was finally here?

We just let the ripple of knowledge spread... we go to a large church so all you had to do was tell one person and EVERYBODY knows...
I think the twitter thing is interesting, I'd do that if I had a twitter to keep people posted. :)
I just relied on word of mouth with my first dd. But I did birth announcementswith my second. We did not really tell to many people about her in case her birth mother didn't do though with her adoption plan.
word of mouth and the cutest photo collage birth announcements.
Well back in the day (11 years ago) when cell phones were too expensive we just called people and then asked some people to let other people know! LOL And then we sent out announcements with the pics we got taken at the hospital. This time I'm debating whether I actually send out announcemnts or I just call and then email everyone with pics.
Called my mother and one of my sisters and they spread the word.
I sent out birth announcements. Call me old fashioned, but I think birth announcements are great. Since the hospital pics are so expensive, I took my own cute picture, printed off copies and put them in the birth announcements. We did call the immediate family and a few close friends.
We called our family from the hospital and told them--then watched the word spread. lol
I gave DF a list of people he were to call in waves of importance - like these people need to know within the hour no matter what the time - the next lot could be told at the first convienent opportunity (ie: after 9am if he was born during the night etc...) and then the final lot (like work) who could wait a day or two. I also knew in advance that it was going to be a boy (indisputably u/s evidence) and so made my own birth announcement cards in my final month of pregnancy - helped pass the time! I made a computer template of all the addresses I would need so I could print the labels (which came in handy when I needed to send thank you cards - and believe you me it saves time!) and address and stamp the cards. I took them all to the hospital with me and just had to fill in the information like the time, date and weight of his birth. They were written and posted within a day of him being born (It helped I had a c section so was still in hospital - and his first 'full' day of being here - I barely got a look in with all the cuddles!) I plan on doing the same this time round. I shall make the cards after my son has gone to bed and will again take them to the hosiptal to fill in. Organised, no?
we started off with phone calls and when she ws about 3 weeks old sent out announcement cards. It was hard work getting it all done, but worth it in the end!
Our daughter was born on Dec. 3rd so I put little announcements inside Christmas cards.
