leave baby home alone

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets—we won't tell.

This Week's Secret:

"I leave my 5-month-old twins alone in the house while I drive my friend home. I'm only gone for five minutes and I know nothing will happen to them because they're sound asleep, and we live in a safe neighborhood." —anonymous

I thought about doing this before because it seems like nothing would happen, but I would never chance it. I love my son so much I will sacrafice running to the store for cigarettes.

Polly Klaus lived in "a safe neighborhood", too. And houses in safe neighborhoods also burn down, have gas leaks, etc . . .

I cant believe that someone would actually do this, its crazy and makes me mad that stupid people have kids. Do you realize what can happen in 5 minutes? If I knew you I would call cps on you

Incredibly stupid, and appalling this is in the Daily Buzz.

Wow, this amazes me to actually read this makes it real.  I've only seen this type of thing on television.  I am afraid to even leave my son in the house to run right down the stairs to the car.  I take him with me and we live Alaska (it's cold).  I would rather risk him getting a cold and me being able to get medications and make him well than to risk something happening to him in a split second that I cannot rescue him from.  All because I didn't want to inconvenience myself by taking him with me for two minutes. There is nothing in the world more important to me than being the mother to my child that he deserves.  Please change this behavior before its too late mama.

I'm a brand new mommy (my little boy is three weeks and one day old). I will admit that it has been crazy adjusting to all of the little things in every day life that were simple before, but now take a lot of extra effort. I can't type up a homework assignment very quickly because I have only one free hand...I have to dress my son up to make a 10 minute trip to Walmart (and of course once I get him dressed and strapped into the carseat he's got a dirty diaper that needs changing). And then there's the task of getting the carseat strapped into the car when I forget to take the base out of my husband's truck.

But I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER leave him home alone for any amount of time. Even when I need to check the mail, which is about as far from my livingroom as my bathroom is....Abram goes with me. Even when I need a quick shower because I smell like day-old formula spit up...Abram is in the carseat in the bathroom with me, so if he needs his mommy I'm right there.

It is selfish, irresponsible, and absolutely ridiculous to know that you could leave your precious little babies home by themselves. Sleeping or not, it's just not right.

I would never do that! Anything can happen in 5 minutes, someone needs to be with your child at all times! or at least close enough so if they cry, they'll be there right away! I cant imagine leaving my little one for even a second. thats just irresponsible!

I typically have an open mind but this is really bad. There's just no other way to put it.

I can't imagine leaving not one but two 5 month old little babies alone in a house while I "drive my friend home" that's "only five minutes away" no matter what kind of neighborhood I lived in.

Either my friend walks home or waits until my babies are up from their nap before I drive them anywhere.

It's also illegal.
