I work from home so I guess you could say I bring my baby to work. And things sometimes get tricky. She tends to wake up in the middle of conference calls and decides to hit all the keys on my computer just when I'm about to send that oh-so-important e-mail. Still, I think it's a lot different than if I brought my baby into an office. But that's an alternative that more and more moms are considering, and that companies are allowing.
I just read an article in the New York Times about one woman who set up a play space near her office where her newborn could be with a babysitter. So she was still paying for childcare, but she could bond with her baby whenever she had a break, and could go to meetings without worrying. Her daughter, who is now three-and-a-half still goes to work with her mom as does her 7-month-old sister.
Some people think having a baby in the office is disruptive—not only to co-workers, but to themselves. One mommy blogger, who also read the Times article, said she wouldn't bring her baby to work because she couldn't give her the attention she deserved. She wished she had daycare in the building. That's my dream too.
What about you? Do you bring your baby to work with you? Would you if your employer allowed it? Would you have a babysitter come along too?

Hi, I used to take my baby to work with me, i was the manager of a scrapbook store, and I set it up so that we had a pretty good size space in the back, I didnt want customers to have to climb the stairs so gated them off and put a foam playmat on the floor and he had a bed and toys galore there. I even took in a fridgerator so that I could keep food there for him. It worked out so well, I kept him "home" with me for over a year. He never went into daycare till he was 14 months old. it also helped that I lived within walking distance from where the store was and i didnt have to be in till 9am, so we actually got in a small walk and fresh air in the morning and the evening when I got out at 5. It was pretty easy to have him with me, i took everything i knew he would need on monday and leave it there for the week, and I have a laptop that playes movies so he was able to watch cartoons if he wanted to. I didnt want to lug a baby swing down there so I hung screw eyes into the doorway and hung an outside swing up for him, so i would spend a lot of time pushing him, in the swing when i didnt have customers. Once he started to get verbal and mobile it got a little harder, he didnt want to be behind the gate anymore and if i let him out into the store part he made a mess so then it got harder but it was great, id do it agian if ever given the chance.
I would not. I need to go to work to have some much-needed adult time. But I think if companies allow it, it's a great, wonderful thing to give women that option.
Well... I'm a SAHM so I think my current answer might be a bit obvious.
If I were employed in the workforce, I think I might find it a little bit to distracting to have my baby at my desk with me. I'm all for quality childcare in the building though.
I do! I work from home enrolling people into medical disocunt plans with Procard International. sometimes he will even get on the computer and tell me when its time to take a break.
He usually gets on Fisher Price and plays the toddler games online.
