"Newborns stay tiny for such a short time," mentions Wall. This is one of the reasons why she recommends parents schedule their photo shoot before their child is 12 days old.

Another reason why Shellie recommends to do newborn photography sooner rather than later is because little ones are more "curly" and likely to deep sleep the younger they are.

"Keeping the baby awake and delaying feeding before arriving is always best," notes Wall. Once parent and baby are in her home studio, Shellie advises Mom to feed her newborn, which, in turn, will allow the bundle of joy to fall into a deep sleep -- perfect for the photo shoot.

Of course there are some unexpected things that can happen during a newborn shoot ... like a baby pooping. "Some parents are horrified when their newborn poops on me, but it's normal -- it's just poop!" laughs Wall. "It's really funny when it's on Dad," she adds. "It's always on Dad!"
