I just realized that tonight, for the very first time, I get to play Santa. I am so excited! I'll write a letter, eat and drink the cookies we put out (yum!), and put my baby's presents under the tree. It feels magical.
I've alway believed in Santa and I still do. He just needs a lot of help. I came across amandasrainbow journal post, "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus," in which she posted the famous 1897 letter to Santa in the New York Sun. It means so much more to me now that I have a child. If you've never read it, please do.
The letter ends this way (this will not ruin it for you):
"A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood."
Which just goes to show you, I'm not really Santa Claus after all. For long after I've vanished from the planet, he'll still be filling stockings and putting presents under the tree.
If you celebrate the holiday, I wish all you Baby Mamas, your babies, and your families, the merriest of Christmases.
