Sneak Peek of Prince George's Christening, Plus All the Details (PHOTO)

This Just In 16

prince george christeningThe big day is finally here! Prince George of Cambridge was christened today at Chapel Royal in Saint James Palace in London. Prince William, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and their little prince arrived from Kensington Palace at 2:32 this afternoon (London time) and met with clergy in the courtyard before the ceremony. As you can see here, the little Royal family looked gorgeous. Here's everything we know about the christening.

St. James Palace is where the body of Prince William's mother, Princess Diana, was kept before her funeral. "It's a special place for William," a source says. "Having the service there is his way of involving his mother, who he so wishes could be here for all of this."

More from The Stir: Prince George Christening Ceremony Will Have Nice Tribute to Diana

Catherine wore a cream-colored Alexander McQueen suit with a skirt and ruffled jacket and a fascinator. Her proper yet girlishly sweet ensemble matches Prince George's gown. William wore a navy blue suit with baby blue tie.

A source told Us that "George has been good as gold today."

Prince George wore the Honiton lace and satin-lined christening gown used by the royal family, commissioned by the Queen as a replica of the gown created in 1841 for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter.

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury had the honor of christening the royal baby in a 45-minute ceremony.

The Choir of Her Majesty's Chapel Royal, which includes six professional singers and ten young boy choristers, performed two hymns and two anthems. One of the anthems was "Blessed Jesu! Here We Stand," which was composed for Prince William's baptism.

Prince George has seven godparents: Zara Tindall (William's cousin), Oliver Baker (college friend of Will and Kate's), Emilia Jardin-Paterson (friend of Will and Kate's), Earl "Hugh" Grosvenor (son of one of William's godparents), Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton (former personal secretary to the couple), Julia Samuel (close friend of Diana's), and William van Custem (family friend of Will's).

Other guests at the christening included Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince Harry, Carole and Michael Middleton, and Catherine's sister Pippa and brother James. Pippa and Prince Harry read Bible verses at the ceremony. Pippa wore a pink ("blush oyster") shift dress under a cream-colored trapeze coat.

Following the ceremony, there will be a private tea and champagne reception hosted by Prince Charles and Camillla, Duchess of Cornwall. A tier of William and Catherine's wedding cake will be served to guests.

What do you think Catherine's christening ensemble?

Is it a bit strange to see a boy in a girls dress but it's what they wanted. Not my choice if I had a son. But I guess that's what they do in England. Just hope it's last time they dress him that way poor kid will have a complex issue.

Its a Christening "gown"..cracks me up that no one understands that. The design dates WAY back in history when children, girls and boys wore "dress like" attire during early childhood. It's a family heirloom originally created by Queen Victoria and has been worn by Royals for Christenings since and handed down. The original gown was re-created by order of the Queen and had been worn by at least 60 royals through the years for the Christening event including William. But even THAT one has become too fragile to use now so once again, it was recreated...the one Prince George wears is a replica of the original. There are pictures including the one of the Queen herself in the Christening gown. Its a Royal thing, and I love it!

Would love a full shot of Kate's attire. I would say the baby was dressed very traditional. That's the way it was done long ago. Nothing wrong with that. He is a beautiful baby. Liked that Mom's dress was ssimilar in color to Prince George's.

It looks like a christening gown. I'm American but I'm not surprised by it. I thought all babies wore christening gowns.

I think the christening gown is adorable. My grandmother made my older brothers christening gown
