Kate Middleton Doesn't Want to Be the Poster Princess for Breastfeeding

kate middleton babyPeople have been wondering and speculating about it since the day the Duchess of Cambridge announced her pregnancy: Will Kate Middleton breastfeed? Some said no, being that she's a busy lady with many obligations; while others actually made public pleas to her to breastfeed. Well, the verdict is finally in. The Duchess is reportedly nursing Prince George Alexander Louis. But before lactivists hold a ticker tape parade and erect a statue in her honor, they should hear what the Duchess truly believes about breastfeeding.

According to a royal source, "Kate feels that it is a matter of personal choice, and that new mums should do whatever feels right for them and their baby." In other words, while breastfeeding may work for Kate, it may not necessarily work for another mom. Because everybody's different. Seems like a pretty great philosophy to me. I think it's wonderful that the Duchess is nursing her little man, but even more wonderful is the fact that, regardless of her choice, she's compassionate, understanding, and respectful toward other moms and their choices. And, let's be honest, that's more than we can say for some people.

If Kate's decision to nurse Baby Cambridge boosts breastfeeding numbers in Britain and beyond, great, awesome. There's little dispute that breast is best. But nothing would be better than if Kate's attitude about breastfeeding became a trend. Gosh, it really would be so nice if the breastfeeding vs. formula war just came to a halt already and we all just stuck together in this motherhood thing. Don't you agree?

What are your thoughts on breastfeeding vs. formula feeding?

I agree with Kate "mums should do whatever feels right for them and their baby".

I wish the breast/ bottle feeding debate would go away.  Parents just do what's best for your family and move on.

I agree with Iknow010.

Did you ever think she said this because she is in the public eye and doesn't want to offend anyone.

The Duchess is definitely a modern mom; she says the neutral PC thing by taking sides on the subject.

She could've very easily used her position to push for one or the other.  I agree - "to each their own" - as long as the baby is getting fed properly & taken care of, that's all that really matters.

The only thing I want to be higher in awareness is the stigma surrounding breastfeeding. No one should be forced to breastfeed in a bathroom of a restaurant. Yes, you CAN breastfeed modestly, and in my opinion, if you are covered, there should be NO discrimination against that mom for doing what she feels is best for her family.

I agree with Shaina-actually, I agree with most of the comments here. Every woman has their own reasons for choosing how to feed their baby, and we should repsect those choices, so long as baby is being nourished properly. There are so many other issues in the world, this should really be a non-issue.

Ok, so you write

" Gosh, it really would be so nice if the breastfeeding vs. formula war just came to a halt already and we all just stuck together in this motherhood thing. Don't you agree?"

and then you ask,

"What are your thoughts on breastfeeding vs. formula feeding?"

So aren't you, in effect keeping the war waging for your own personal benefit?  Bravo for exploiting an already charged subject!!!

I find feeding a newborn something that isn't natural, possible future allergies, natural bonding, rates way above artificial nipples and smelly vomit/feces anyday. Good choice Kate.
