6 Best Shoes to Support Baby's First Steps (PHOTOS)

baby shoeWatching your baby take his or her first steps is probably one of the proudest moments a parent feels -- though things do tend to get a little more hectic once our kiddos are mobile!

And while most babies walk around barefoot at home, making it easy for their little toes to grip the floor -- they definitely need a good pair of shoes to protect and support their feet while they're out and about. But with so many adorable baby shoes on the market, which ones are best for our little ones?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies wear lightweight and flexible shoes that allow their feet to move naturally.

They should also be made of leather or mesh material to allow baby's feet to breathe and have rubber soles to ensure traction to make sure that they don't slip.

Based on those guidelines, here are six great choices for your baby's first pair of walking shoes, all of which are approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association as being beneficial for baby's feet.

How many families can spend $30+ on baby shoes that they grow out of in a matter of weeks?? Not a very helpful article.

Baby shoes don't have to be expensive as babies outgrow their feet quickly. What's important is the level of comfort these shoes can give our babies. Lightweight, flexible and soft-soled shoes are the best for them.

You can buy great shoes and not spend a fortune. A great place to check out is Nordstrom Rack. I found the stride rite shoes mentioned (but a boy shoe) for only $12.97!!! They are great and very flexible. You can find some great deals here if you look.

thanks for the ideas ! i didn't know of all these brands ! :)

I actually thought the article was helpful. I believe Geox shoes were forgotten, they are one of the top for support and comfort for new walkers. They are pricier, but well worth it for us.
As for other comments, how much do you spend for your own shoes ? and you can walk ! why put your child in uncomfortable or unsupportive shoes when they're only learning ? for 30$ ? I think that price can be well justified, especially if you plan to have more than one child. :)
