Tracy Morgan and his fiance have had a baby. The 30 Rock star tweeted, "It's a GIRL!!!!!" It's the fourth child for Morgan, who has three grown sons from his marriage to ex-wife Sabrina, whom he divorced after 23 years. Wow. It must be cool to have a girl after three boys. Not that boys aren't nice, of course. But who doesn't want to have both sexes if you can? In fact, Tracy had previously said he'd like to add a girl to his brood. Tracy and his fiance, Megan Wollover, also revealed the name of the baby. It's a unique name. And it's normally not used as a name, but as a term for "expert."
The name is .... Maven Sonae.
This is a name that's familiar to me because I'm constantly using it to mean "guru" or "expert", i.e., "The fashion maven decided not to use fur in her designs anymore." Wikipedia describes a "maven" as:
A maven (also mavin) is a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others. The word maven comes from Hebrew, via Yiddish, and means one who understands, based on an accumulation of knowledge.
Sooooo "maven" as an actual kid's name. Wellllllll ... hey, it's not what I would have chosen, but it could have been a lot worse.
Maven is so unique it's not even listed in the Social Security Administration's baby name database. But BabyCenter lists there being 35 Mavens born in 2012. That will probably go up with Tracy's announcement. Who knows, maybe this will start a trend of kids with "word" names. Like "trendsetter." Or "blogger."
There is something nice and lyrical about Maven Morgan, though. Hey, I think the name is growing on me. And even though the name is modern and rare, it sounds old-fashioned. It also kind of sounds grandma-ish. Can't you just hear it? Grandma Maven. So maybe that guarantees that little Maven will live a long life.
What do you think of the name Maven?
