7-Month-Old Boy Learns to Waterski -- For Real! (VIDEO)

baby waterskiAt first, I almost thought this video of a 7-month-old baby on waterskis was fake. In fact, I kind of wanted it to be fake. Because, yikes! Why is that 7-month-old baby on waterskis?! Can this really be a good idea? Sure, he's got that little handle thing to hold on to, but egads, what if he should decide to let go?! I wouldn't even consider letting my kids ride in those little seats that go on the back of adult bicycles when they were babies, let alone waterskis.

On the other hand, though ... how many people get to grow up and say, "Yeah, I knew how to waterski before I learned how to walk. What, don't all babies do that?" (Shrugging dismissively like, Who, me? A badass? Naaaw.) Which makes me wonder: Did I rob my kids of experiences like this one by being a big old scaredy-cat?

I mean, I have to admit, this baby (whose name is Ryder) seems to be having a pretty good time. Except for one part where he starts blinking kind of a lot because he's getting splashed in the face with water. In any case, whether he's inordinately chill or oddly stoic for his age, he's definitely not UNhappy on waterskis. And if he can pull this off at 7 months, imagine what he'll be doing at 2 or 3 years old! Seriously, this will blow you away:

Yup. Wild stuff!

Would you let your 7-month-old baby learn to waterski?

My baby is only 2 weeks, but I couldn't even imagine EVER letting him do that! Kudos to that momma for being so secure, but holy crap...no freaking way!

What the hell is wrong with these people!

Megan Johnson

Wow, why is everyone freaking out?  A. the water is shallow.  That's obvious by the woman (mom?) running next to him.  B. they are moving slow enough for her to keep up on foot.  And C. Baby Water Skier is wearing a life jacket.  What's the big problem?  I think it's adorable!

Gwynne Montgomery

I agree with Megan :) They are obviously taking precautions, and the baby is very obviously not upset at all!

I couldn't do that, mostly because I don't think my little ones would have handled it well, lol.  BUT, they are taking all necessary precautions.  They are not out in deep waters.  AND there are adults (parents?) there the entire time making sure if he were to fall off, he is rescued within half a second.  AND he is wearing a life vest.  It is very cute!  They are parents who obviously want their child to enjoy and not be scared of the water at a young age.  Teaching a child at a young age how to swim can prevent drownings.  Maybe these ppl live on the water.  If the whole story was known, maybe this could be a WTG awesome parent moment!  One thing I forgot to mention, did you see his little feet were secured as to not hurt his knees or legs?  Another good thinking move!

Gotta agree with the previous 3 posters.  He looks like he's having fun and is not at all upset.  He'll grow up to have a love of water and probably swim like a fish.

This thing is multi leveled. First off in starting your kid off on this this young your starting so early the REAL question is what WOULD he do at 2yrs old. Hell next year. You are giving a no fear additude which could get him killed. Next though he's not crying that DOESN'T mean he likes it. It just means he's not scared which not all babies would be.They haven't all gotten the fear thing yet since you teach your children to be afaid and this might NOT teach that. I would be afraid of the damage that it could cause if he fell off.Even with the parents there he would still hit the ground. I would be angy if my spouse or other parent did this.

this is way cool i wish i would have done it with my kids
