Top 20 Baby Names to Avoid if You’re Trying to Be Original

cute babyGot a list of baby names all picked out, do ya? Thinking you're all original with that old-timey, grandmotherish name you've chosen for your son or daughter? Then you might want to check out Parenting.com's list of the most searched baby names of 2012. Their list of the top 10 boy names and top 10 girl names is an indication of what's going to be popular in 2013, so if you thought you were the only person who thinks the name Gus is cool, think again.

Here's the list!

Top 10 most searched girl names in 2012:

  1. Isabella
  2. Millie
  3. Sookie
  4. Ann
  5. Ella
  6. Betty
  7. Ellie
  8. Emma
  9. Eithne (pronounced ITH-nee)
  10. Charlotte

And boys:

  1. Liam
  2. Max
  3. Leo
  4. Ted
  5. Mo
  6. Aiden
  7. Andy
  8. Bertie
  9. Ned
  10. Gus

Looks like some old-fashioned names will be hot in 2013, but it looks like there's still some recent fan favorites on the list that will surely stay popular in the new year. I mean, Isabella and Liam? Those have been hot for years. Isabella was the second most popular girl name on CafeMom's list of top 100 baby names of 2012, and Liam was number one for boys.

If the above list is any indication, it looks as if we're in for some solidly-named little ones in the upcoming 2010s. And maybe in a couple of decades, the marriage licenses of the future will read more like those in Colonial days when Betty marries Ted and Ann marries Mo.

I happen to like most of the most searched for names in 2012. Are you a fan? Remember, it could always be worse ... the most outrageous baby names of 2012 were hilariously awful.

What do you think of these names?
