It may have been the "go-go juice" concoction of Mountain Dew and Red Bull that brought the world's attention to 6-year-old Alana Thompson, but it turns out Honey Boo Boo isn't the only kid who sucks down soda. It appears they start giving out questionable treats really young in this Georgia household. And by young I mean newborn babies.
Photos of reality TV's newest celebrities that popped up on the web this week show 12-year-old Pumpkin poking a baby's pacifier into a can of Mountain Dew. Then what do you know, you see newborn baby Kaitlyn -- the daughter of 17-year-old Anna -- sucking on what appears to be the same pacifier.
Now before everyone gets up in arms about this, let's be fair. Pumpkin is only 12 years old. She's just a kid who probably didn't know that soda is not something you feed to a newborn baby. So let's give her a break.
And while we're at it, let's give people who give babies "just a taste" of this or that a break, OK? Because it appears that's all this was: just a taste. They didn't pour the whole can of soda down the little girl's throat.
I'm not saying I would have gone with even that much because ... well, it's Mountain Dew!
But I have to admit my daughter had just a sip of this or just a sample of that a few times during her first year. She was 6 months at Christmas time when my mother, who happens to be a nurse practitioner with extensive pediatrics experience, wanted to give her a taste of chocolate ice cream. She loved it.
I've known moms who are militant. Grandma offers up a tiny spoonful of ice cream to a 7-month-old, and you'd think it was full of arsenic.
But as fragile as our babies are, the fact is, they're not THAT fragile. A little taste of something now and then probably won't kill them (I'm not a doctor, so I can only say probably ... although I think history is on my side here). Just think of it this way: if a mom is breastfeeding and eating chocolate ice cream, guess what baby is eating.
Did you allow your baby to sample something out of the ordinary during the first year? What was it and how old were they?

theres a reason its called mountain dew mouth.and the 12 year old would have to be a damned idiot to not know you dont give newborns anything but milk.
I doubt it's the first time that baby's tasted it, or it'll be the last. The family has cheesies and Mountain Dew for breakfast and that includes Honey Boo Boo, which is why she's like 60 Kgs (130 lbs) at 6 years old. New baby will be chugging it down before they're 1.5.
Mountain dew however has loads of sugar, dyes, chemicals, and various other additives. You never know what a baby can be allergic to and to risk it when they are fresh out of the hospital is stupid.
Why would someone want to give a baby even just a taste of soda? What's the point? They're not suppose to have it, why tease them with it? To me it's the same as parents giving their newborn a pacifier to help soothe them, then take it away once they think the child is too old for it, even though they're the ones that gave it to the child in the first place to keep them quiet instead of just holding them.
