I've always been an admirer of Kourtney Kardashian's stubborn insistence on not marrying Mason's baby daddy, Scott Disick. Despite what must be enormous pressure from her mother, not to mention the rest of her family, not to mention Scott, and not to mention the public, Kourtney, despite being pregnant again, is doing what she feels is best for her. And we don't need another 72-day Kardashian marriage, especially when there's a kid -- and soon, another kid -- involved. HOWEVER. The sisters went on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Jimmy broached the subject of why Kourtney has yet to tie the knot with Scott (like that rhyme?). And her answer couldn't have made less sense.
Kourtney told Jimmy Kimmel that she has "major commitment issues" that are holding up any trip down the aisle. She added:
I'm really claustrophobic and all my issues -- and I have a lot of them -- they all stem from this thing. I can't commit to anything -- I love Scott, and he is my partner.
Can't commit to anything?! Whaaaa --? Does Kourt not realize that, whether she likes it or not, she has committed twice to Scott? She has two children with him. There is simply no bigger commitment to a man than bearing his children. I mean, provided that you actually want to co-parent with the babies' father. There are women who choose to have children and go it alone. And there are, of course, women who have no choice but to go it alone.
But in the case of Kourt and Scott, they have chosen to have these children together, and chosen to be partners, and to co-parent. This is, in my mind, a bigger commitment than marriage will ever be. No one likes divorce, but sometimes it's necessary. And you CAN divorce from a partner. You cannot divorce from a child. And because of that, you cannot divorce from a child's father. He is always going to be a part of a baby's life (if all goes well) and that means he is always going to be a part of your life, too.
There are other reasons not to get married. And maybe there are reasons Kourt isn't mentioning. Like Scott's issues with partying. Like his under-employment. But commitmentphobia is not a legit reason for Kourtney's "kold" feet, because she has already committed to Scott as much as a woman can ever commit to a man: By having his baby.
