I totally get why Tori Spelling is a little bit sad about her 7-month-old daughter Hattie's first word: "Dada."
Of course she's more happy and proud than anything else, but a mom can't help but feel just a smidge snubbed when her baby's spoken word debut is all about dad. I mean, remember that whole childbirth thing? Ungrateful much?! (At least Spelling's daughter Stella was a Mama's girl.)
I'm kidding, mostly.
Still, I do understand Tori's pain. Neither one of my children chose "mama" as their first word, either.
Although it wasn't "dada" who got dibs on that milestone moment ...
Both of my kids, who are four years apart in age, said the same word first. And it was ... drumroll ... not Mama. Not Dada.
It was "dog."
Yup, dog. Which was kind of odd, considering that we didn't have a dog until recently (my daughter is now almost 11, my son is 6-and-a-half).
The only explanation I've been able to come up with thus far? We lived in the city when my kids were little, during which time we strolled just about everywhere, and there were always plenty of dogs sharing the sidewalk ... and plenty of me pointing out said dogs because, well, that's just what you do with babies:
Look at the doggie! See that doggie? What does the doggie say? Woof woof!
Anyway, you get the idea. I'm sure Tori will get over her dada-related disappointment in no time ... as the mom of three (almost four!) knows, Hattie will be saying "mama" in no time. And she'll never stop!
What was your baby's first word?

Alex's first word was cookie. Carter's first word was Alex :)
Noelle's first word was "hungry". Followed by "Mim" for Mom and "Mam" for Gram. Still hasn't gotted dada out yet, though she spends as much time with her Daddy as anyone else.
My son's first word was 'ball', dd 1's first work was 'Dada' and dd 2's first word was 'Yum' (for dinnertime.)
I think tori spelling has a son name liam aaron and she already has two little girls stella doreen and hattie margaret and i think the baby needs to be another little boy please liam aaron needs a little brother and his name should be dakota david so that should be a total (two boys + two girls = four children). and stella already has a little sister and her name's hattie and i'm sure she'll call her mama and i'm sure she'll follow in her mom's footsteps and she'll dress appropriately like a regular girl and i'm sure she'll have longer hair like her sister stella and please stella needs to fix her sister's hair and hattie needs to have her hair in two pigtails like cindy brady and she'll have light blonde hair and her bangs should match identically to stella's not liam's but stella's
My 5 year old's first word was at 8 months and it was "kiki" (kitty kitty) everytime time she saw the cat walk by. Then it was dada, ball, dog and probably 20 more words before she said MaMa at 15 months...IDK why she made me wait so long lol...My now 7 month olds first word was "dada" followed by mama a few days later...lol she was a little nice to mama, didn't make her wait as long :) I always tell my husband IDK why they both say dada before mama, mama does everything :)
My oldest's first word was "dada". Child would not say "mama" for anything. He never did say it. He calls me "Mommy" now but I never heard "mama" cross his lips. He's a delayed talker though, so we'll take what we can get!
