OMG. Out of all of the totally adorable things that dogs do when they interact with babies -- teaching them a valuable skill has to be at the top of the list, right? The parents of one 5-month-old baby boy know this all too well -- because their two dogs actually showed him how to properly chew on a teething toy, even though they probably didn't realize they were doing so.
And while parents definitely need to be careful not to treat their dog as a babysitter, I think it's safe to say that sometimes babies really can learn a thing or two about navigating the world just by watching and taking cues from the family pet. Who needs all those fancy baby teaching tools when Fido is around?
Take a look at the video clip below and try not to laugh at how this little baby totally looks to the family dogs for "advice" on how to make the most out of the toy in front of him.
Isn't that beyond sweet? The three of them just look so content laying there on the carpet getting their chew on.
After watching this video, I can't help but think that I may have wasted quite a bit of cash on all those Baby Einstein videos I bought when my son was an infant. Granted -- they were great for popping into the DVD player when I needed to keep my son entertained so I could make dinner, but maybe I should've just gone out and gotten a dog instead?
The total cost probably would've evened out -- but at least with the dog I would've had someone else to hang out with during those long days at home alone as a new mom. Plus, six years later, those DVDs are collecting dust somewhere in my basement.
Yeah, odds are good that I would've gotten way more satisfaction out of the dog.
Have your dog and baby had any cute or funny interactions?

My dog would've eatin the babies toy, lol... they are all very cute!!
When my grandson was about 9 months old or so, I placed him in a wheeled round seat thing (forgot what its called) and he was able to run all over the hall and living room in the thing. Our pit bull named Chiquita, would play tag with him for hours. By the way, the pit bull was the only dog we had that we would let near our boy. The dachshund and the chijuajua were just too mean.
LOL! When my first son was a few months old our in laws pit bull puppy would lay across from him and they would play together. He would stick out his hand to reach her and she would put her paw on his hand and they would go back and forth over and over! It was cute! Now she is so big that my boys use her as a race track for their cars! she sits there and they put the cars on her head they push it down her back!
That is so cute :) I wish we could get a dog for our kids. Our cat's are not nearly as fun for kids as dogs are. Oh well she has an "uncle" chaos that is a pit bull who LOVES her lol.
My 10 month old has been walking around the house for weeks with a squishy ball in his mouth. haha He also learned to crawl in an attempt to follow the dog. She's been great for him!
