Long before I got pregnant, I knew what I wanted to name my daughter, were I ever to have one. And as luck would have it, I am! In less than four short months, the little girl my husband and I created will make her way into the world, and "the name" will be bestowed upon her. It's almost as if it were meant to be (I found boys' name impossible) -- you know, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Since coming up with "the name," I've been careful. Careful to never let it slip. And careful to make sure I always peruse the "Top Name" lists when they're released, out of fear that hers will be on there. Luckily, it wasn't on any of last year's. And even more luckily, it isn't on this year's.
That's right, Nameberry has already released the Top Boy and Top Girl Names of 2012. Is yours on the list? Check out the top 10 ...
Now, before you see the name you chose for your darling little one and start panicking, keep in mind, the list is an indication of which names parents will be using for their babies in 2012 and beyond, according to Nameberry -- who, let's face it, knows their stuff. Okay, here we go:
Top 10 Girl Names of 2012:
1. Charlotte
2. Seraphina
3. Amelia
4. Violet
5. Isla
6. Imogen
7. Adelaide
8. Alice
9. Scarlett
10. Lila
Top 10 Boy Names of 2012:
1. Asher
2. Finn
3. Henry
4. Milo
5. Jasper
6. Atticus
7. Oliver
8. James
9. Jude
10. Felix
Now, don't get me wrong, these are all lovely names (my personal favorites are Atticus, Jude, and Scarlett), but, I don't know, I feel sort of good knowing the one we're going with didn't make the list. Kind of feels like we got away with something. Hopefully it won't be on the 2013 either.
Which names are your favorite? Do you consult these types of lists when brainstorming name ideas?

I really don't like any of them! Well maybe Violet because that is my name but mine is in Spanish. Violeta!
These are the top searched names. Not the top used names.
I looked up maybe 100 names on nameberry but I will only be using three.
This is just names that could become popular or more heard of in the future.
We named our almost 3 month old Asher, it means blessed. We also have an Arabella meaning answered prayer. Our first was stillborn due to complications, so not only have we picked names for our 2nd and 3rd babies that we loved, but they also meant something. You may not like the names but that's why you choose different names for your own children. Lets not bash other's choices because of narrow mindness.
All those names are hideous except Charlotte. I dont know anyone with any of those names, and i know like 100 people who had kids last year.
Whenever I see Asher I think of that dickhead on Spartacus. "Asher! F*cking Victor!" lol
i have a nephew named Asher, but he was born in 06, and i LOVE that name!
LOL And we were just talking baby names and had decided on Charlotte for the next girl, LOL Of COURSE it's the #1 name now! I agree . . . I'm gonna go stab something now! Back to the drawing board. Sheesh!
I'm glad I had a boy...I almost named my hypothetical girl Isla...thought it was unique but now it's super popular
