Long before I got pregnant, I knew what I wanted to name my daughter, were I ever to have one. And as luck would have it, I am! In less than four short months, the little girl my husband and I created will make her way into the world, and "the name" will be bestowed upon her. It's almost as if it were meant to be (I found boys' name impossible) -- you know, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Since coming up with "the name," I've been careful. Careful to never let it slip. And careful to make sure I always peruse the "Top Name" lists when they're released, out of fear that hers will be on there. Luckily, it wasn't on any of last year's. And even more luckily, it isn't on this year's.
That's right, Nameberry has already released the Top Boy and Top Girl Names of 2012. Is yours on the list? Check out the top 10 ...
Now, before you see the name you chose for your darling little one and start panicking, keep in mind, the list is an indication of which names parents will be using for their babies in 2012 and beyond, according to Nameberry -- who, let's face it, knows their stuff. Okay, here we go:
Top 10 Girl Names of 2012:
1. Charlotte
2. Seraphina
3. Amelia
4. Violet
5. Isla
6. Imogen
7. Adelaide
8. Alice
9. Scarlett
10. Lila
Top 10 Boy Names of 2012:
1. Asher
2. Finn
3. Henry
4. Milo
5. Jasper
6. Atticus
7. Oliver
8. James
9. Jude
10. Felix
Now, don't get me wrong, these are all lovely names (my personal favorites are Atticus, Jude, and Scarlett), but, I don't know, I feel sort of good knowing the one we're going with didn't make the list. Kind of feels like we got away with something. Hopefully it won't be on the 2013 either.
Which names are your favorite? Do you consult these types of lists when brainstorming name ideas?

My top name for boys and girls aren't there. I'm cool. I check the Social Security Site.
Grrrrrr.... all three of my favorite girls names are on this list, and I seriously thought that they were unheard of..... really, Imogen? The reason I chose that name is because it's NOT popular. At this rate, I'd be better off naming her Sarah after myself.
Um, no my kids have normal names. Thank you very much.
Most of these names are absolutely horrible. Whatever happened to normal names? Why must every child's name be "unique"? Do you even think about what your kid is going to feel like as an adult with these unusual names? What you name your child has life-long effects on them. Kids with unusual names are the ones that get beat up on the playground. Or find odd nicknames to cover their horrible first names. Employers have been known to toss out resumes of people with unusual names. "Asher Jones" sounds like a sci-fi novel character, not a man in a professional role. Seriously?
Really?? These are the top names. Looks like people are following celebrities with naming their children again.
I don't particularly care for any of them...How do ther have a list already...its only the 4th day of the year?
Too many people are still using Aiden names, Riley/Kiley/Kaylee etc names for these names to jump up like that.
I can see Charlotte, Amelia, Violet, Isla, Alice Scarlett and Lola for the girls getting more popular.
All of the boys will definitely get more popular tgis year.
wow that is a very surprising list of names for the top 10. Neither one of my lo's names are on there thankfully ;)
You do realize that these are real names, right? They have history behind them.
That is more than anyone can say for many names now a days.
Also...Asher is biblical.
