New Mom Secret: I Use My Baby to Get Things

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.

This Week's Secret:

My son is 5 months old and super cute (aren't all babies, I guess?), and every time we go out, we get something. Last week I took him with me to appeal a parking ticket and I got out of it. "You have a baby," the guy said as he dismissed it even though the actual ticket had nothing to do with my baby and everything to do with parking in front of a hydrant (oops!). The same thing happens at stores where they will waive paying if I only have one small thing or carry my bags because I have my hands full. Now I never want to go anywhere without him because people are so much nicer to me. Am I using him? — Anonymous

You are a mom. You have a cute baby. I say work it. Soon enough, you will be getting rudeness instead of smiles. Rambunctious toddlers are far less adorable to some people.

Do you have any advice for this mom?
