9-1-1 Operator Saves Newborn's Life Over the Phone (VIDEO)

There are few things more terrifying than the idea of our children stopping breathing. It happens for no reason sometimes and it can happen suddenly. Recently, two new parents found themselves in this horrible situation

The mom called 9-1-1 in a panic as her husband, Brent Patterson, was desperately trying to get help for their little baby Amelia Patterson who was only 4 weeks old when she suddenly turned pale and stopped breathing. Patterson’s wife called 9-1-1 and frantically pleaded with the dispatcher: “My baby’s not being responsive!” Calmly, the dispatcher walked the father through lifesaving CPR.

Little Amelia lived. Here is the call:

This call is scary for so many reasons, not the least of which is that their baby almost died. And while the baby isn't out of the woods yet and still required surgery to be stabilized, the father credits 9-1-1 with saving his daughter's life.

A lot of times we hear terrible tales about 9-1-1 and the slow response time or other such horror stories. But this is what it's all about.

It's also a lesson to ALL parents to learn CPR NOW. Do not pass go. Get thee to the Red Cross now. This reminds me, too! The last time I took a CPR class, I was pregnant with my daughter five years ago. I have to get re-certified. As a parent or anyone who is around kids, it's crucial to know this lifesaving technique.

Do you know CPR?
