New Mom Secret: I Have No Shoes for My Baby

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.

This Week's Secret:

My daughter was born in mid-March. Now it's early July and she is nearly 4 months old. In that time, I haven't put shoes on her once. When it was still cold out, we just stayed home, but as it warmed up, I started taking her out and people made comments. "Why doesn't your baby have shoes on?" they would ask even when she was in outfits with footies! Now that it's summer, she wears a lot of dresses and onesies and her feet are bare. I get comments all the time. One friend made a pointed comment about how her baby was never fully dressed without her shoes. I think this is hooey, but I also wonder if I am wrong. -- Anonymous

I really don't think this is a huge deal. I dressed my kids with shoes because we got some lovely, easy to pull on, and comfortable Robeez for both my kids.

That said, it wasn't necessary. Your baby can't walk yet. She can't even crawl. This is the only time in her life where she can be barefoot every day and get away with it. So why not? I say keep it up as long as you can!
