Jewel & Ty Murray Give Baby Rodeo-Ready Name

Maressa Brown

jewel ty murrayIt's a boy for first-time mom Jewel and her hubby Ty Murray! Her rep confirmed this morning that the singer/songwriter/poet and her rodeo cowboy welcomed their precious son into the world yesterday night at 7 p.m. CST. Weighing in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, baby Murray's name is Kase Townes. Well, it's not as bad as some celeb baby monikers, right? And it certainly seems fitting, given the couple's Western background and lifestyle. I can just see him now, in Hollywood pre-school, hangin' with buddies Harper Seven Beckham and Aleph Portman-Millepied!

I gotta say, this is especially happy news for the couple, whose path to parenthood hasn't exactly been the smoothest one. The two got hitched in 2008, and then tried for two years before conceiving. Then, this past March, Jewel was in a terrifying car accident, in which a fire truck hit her Cadillac SRX on its way to the scene of a grass fire.

Knowing that she was pregnant, most of us were stunned and scared for the mommy-to-be upon hearing the news. Although she reported via Twitter that she was "real sore and banged up," it seems like everything turned out just fine for Jewel and her baby, thank goodness!

Now that the singer has given birth to her healthy, bouncing baby boy, something tells me she and her hubby are going to be awesome parents. They genuinely sound over-the-moon about starting a family. Their official announcement to People magazine just about says it all!

Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world. We are overcome with happiness -- it really is as great as everyone told us it would be -- better even!

Awww! And, just when you didn't think this picture could get any more perfect, did you know Jewel put out a children's album called Lullaby a couple of years back? It's bound to be absolutely perfecting listening material for Kase.

Huge congrats to the happy, healthy family!

What do you think of the name Kase Townes?
