So that's where they all wind up. Raise your hand if you use your stroller as a storage system while shopping. I know when I lived in a walking city, my stroller was practically a station wagon where I stashed groceries, Old Navy sale items and oh, right, the baby. But just like you wouldn't leave the trunk of your car wide open while you were shopping elsewhere, you probably shouldn't leave your stroller exposed for thieves to take advantage of the goodies inside. (Again, there's a BABY in there, people!)
After a rash of crimes committed by "stroller bandits" in Los Angeles, the police released this video of two women in action. Watch as they surround, distract, and ultimately rob this family blind.
Smooth moves, thieves. This is where a little patience pays off. Apparently these pros have been wreaking havoc around downtown Los Angeles, as the police say there have been a rash of stroller burglaries in the area.
If you find yourself in a situation where you fear for your stroller's security, follow these rules to protect yourself from a robbery:
1) DON'T LEAVE YOUR BABY UNATTENDED
Okay, that was just one rule. But really, the most important, wouldn't you say? I mean, it may just be lucky that a wallet was the only thing this tag team of criminals was searching for. Any of us who have used a stroller know that at times you can step away for a second to grab something you need. But if this mom had only stepped away for a few seconds, she'd still have her wallet.
I know it's horrible, and nothing makes it right that these people take advantage of moms loaded down with baby gear and the like. But protecting your baby, and her surroundings, should be the first thing on your mind. Not what kind of deal you can get on bracelets at the swap meet.
Have you ever been ripped off while loaded down with your baby?

No and I hope never to be. I know sometimes you can't get a stroller down every aisle so at those times ill position the stroller right at the end and quickly get what I need so the aisle isn't blacked for too long. I never leave my purse on the stroller and when I store packages on the bottom I make them hard to get at.

Ok that just feeds into the stereotypical everyone is out to steal my baby and do unspeakable things to him/her. I'm not advocating leaving your child alone like that, I certainly don't but to basically imply that the baby would be kidnapped or molested is taking it to far and I would consider it fear mongering.
What this mother should have done, besides the obvious of not stepping away that long from the baby would be to put her purse on her shoulder or further down in the basket making it impossible to reach without removing several items, something else that would help would be to zip your bag closed or if you don't have a purse that zips, get one and use that zipper religiously. If the mother had then she mostly likely would have noticed her purse unzipped and would have been alerted that something wasn't right.
see when i shopped i used carts and left my strapped into the carrier, or when he was older strapped into the seat or stroller. it makes it a lot harder for kidnappers to take a baby that is strapped in. i stay away from places that make it hard to navigate aisles. when i worked retail i would watch people with stroller's like a hawk bc the stroller makes it easy for them to put things in there. i had a woman in the store with a stroller, no baby, and several bags from a jc penny, yet there was no jc penny in our mall. i followed her around the store and pretty much explained every item she looked at, it only took her about three minutes to make an excuse to get out. puh-lease!
Um, she was away from the stroller for a good minute and a half. Who does that in a busy shopping area? Plus, why didn't she notice these women all up in the space of her stroller where her BABY IS?! She's lucky they weren't baby theives. Fool.
I have never been ripped off I'm much too cautious. This video also seems phony to me....who would leave their baby unattended for that long?
no because i never leave my kids alone
No, but I have brought a stroller and toddler to the park, let out the toddler, and turned around to see another toddler trying to make off with it! XD Of course, their parents are right behind them going "No, honey, that one's not ours!" I don't usually use a stroller that has any storage; I love umbrella strollers because they're small and light. And I always have at least one hand on the stroller at all times. I don't feel comfortable walking away from a child in a store.
no because I do not leave the stoller. It has my kid in it
