New Mom Secret: I Am Ashamed to Not Breastfeed

It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.

This Week's Secret:

I tried breastfeeding my baby for the first month of her life and it was awful. My supply was never enough, I was terribly depressed. I was a mess. I finally gave it up but I'm so ashamed to be using bottles. I go out, but I find myself making so many excuses. I'm so hung up on it. I feel like the worst mom in the world. -- Anonymous

Breastfeeding is a pretty amazing thing if it works and a horrible thing if it doesn't. It can be very hard on moms who wanted to breastfeed and are unable to for whatever reason.

It's also complicated because moms get so much pressure to do it, and if they can't (or don't want to), there is enormous guilt. I say, enough. Really.

You're ruining the beginning of your baby's life because you're stressed out about how you're feeding your baby. Stop that! Whether or not you breastfeed doesn't make you a good or bad mother.

Do you have any advice for this mom?
