'Anti-Breastfeeding' Facebook Now Bans Pretend Boobs
I'm beginning to wonder if Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook team are offended by moms in general. Terrified of us, and our body parts. Because not only have they deleted, often against their own Terms of Service, support groups for breastfeeding, breastfeeding pictures, and pictures of pregnant women, they've gone one more ridiculous step and deleted pictures of FAKE boobs. Crochet boobs. Crochet boobs that are really hats for babies!
Yep. Facebook hates Boobie Beanie -- the best hat for your baby when you are nursing in public. Their Facebook page has been deleted, deemed as offensive. Apparently even a nipple made of yarn was too much for Zuckerberg's crew.
I guess I understand. I mean, boobs, even hats made to look like them, they're scary. Well, if you're a 12-year-old boy.
What's next? Will bottle-feeding pictures be deleted since there are also fake nipples on baby bottles? And Ameda and Medela's pages will go down too, right? Or is the issue that BEHIND the fake boobs in these Boobie Beanie pictures, REAL boobs are functioning as intended? That must be it. Just the mere IDEA of a breast lactating is terrifying to those with the maturity of Justin Bieber's fan club.
Facebook needs to rewrite their TOS to state "Photos of breastfeeding or even those that imply that your breasts might possibly be used for nourishing infants, or even things that look like they might come in contact with lactating breasts are hereby banned." At least then moms would be able to follow the TOS and understand why things were deleted.
Anyway, 23-year-old Sara Hanson of San Francisco, the creator of Boobie Beanies, has sent multiple messages to Facebook so she can reinstate her business's page, and learn what exactly caused them to shut it down. She had more than 3,000 fans and the page removal is hurting her income. So far, no response. There's a Bring Back Boobie Beanie page, though, and many people have written letters.
Facebook, you suck. I just wish you had some competition that didn't also suck.

That's so far beyond ludicrous that I don't even have words for it! When Facebook is even outlawing false replicas of boobs, something has gone so far wrong! Who knew that people were really that repressed?

I get that Facebook is backwards, hypocritical and downright unfair in their treatment of breastfeeding. But my question is - why are we wasting time trying to call them on the carpet for it? Shocking fact here: nobody needs Facebook. Facebook is not teaching people to bf. Folks who want to share their bf experience and lessons can do so without facebook. It's a tool, but it's not the only one. So they're asshats. Asshats have a place in this world too. Let's just play in our own sandbox and not worry about those other kids.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Facebook and the rest of the world needs to relaize that breasts are there to suckle babies and not to suckle big boys, sell cars, aftershave and viagra. FB should be ashamed.

As usual, I disagree with you. :) Facebook is a free site, a free service, and they are entitled to do what ever they want. Why do they think BF pics are offensive? Who knows? But the likely reason is that they have some pimple faced intern who does nothing but search for words (boobs) and images that depict boobs...he sees them and BAM they come down. If you dont like it, dont use facebook - its a privledge, not a right. NO ONE should be using Facebook as the place to get BF advice - that is ridiculous.
And I hate those Boobie Beanies! They look like you are the immature teenager, chuckling like Beavis and Butthead - "look at my boobies" **rolls eyes** Be mature at BF, not like a rebellious child.

Then NO ONE should ask ANY questions at all on Facebook... "does this shirt look good on me?" , "do you think I should dye my hair purple?" , "my puppy is peeing all over my house, what should I do?"
Come on, that's ridiculous. Facebook is SOCIAL NETWORKING... so people use it as a tool to reach out to others and be heard or get advice. I'm sorry, but that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Asking for medical advice on Facebook is the equivelant of Googling it -- where you will end up with alot of information, most unfounded, and alot of advice, which could help or not. Your right FB is SOCIAL networking, so ask about your shirt, ask about your hair, ask about your freaking puppy, but do not expect to end up with wonderful results when you ask about something that as serious as nourishing your child. See an expert opinion, a lactation consult, a pediatrician who specializes in BF medicine, a midwife, SOMEONE with more knowledge than your high school cheerleading buddy!
