I'm beginning to wonder if Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook team are offended by moms in general. Terrified of us, and our body parts. Because not only have they deleted, often against their own Terms of Service, support groups for breastfeeding, breastfeeding pictures, and pictures of pregnant women, they've gone one more ridiculous step and deleted pictures of FAKE boobs. Crochet boobs. Crochet boobs that are really hats for babies!
Yep. Facebook hates Boobie Beanie -- the best hat for your baby when you are nursing in public. Their Facebook page has been deleted, deemed as offensive. Apparently even a nipple made of yarn was too much for Zuckerberg's crew.
I guess I understand. I mean, boobs, even hats made to look like them, they're scary. Well, if you're a 12-year-old boy.
What's next? Will bottle-feeding pictures be deleted since there are also fake nipples on baby bottles? And Ameda and Medela's pages will go down too, right? Or is the issue that BEHIND the fake boobs in these Boobie Beanie pictures, REAL boobs are functioning as intended? That must be it. Just the mere IDEA of a breast lactating is terrifying to those with the maturity of Justin Bieber's fan club.
Facebook needs to rewrite their TOS to state "Photos of breastfeeding or even those that imply that your breasts might possibly be used for nourishing infants, or even things that look like they might come in contact with lactating breasts are hereby banned." At least then moms would be able to follow the TOS and understand why things were deleted.
Anyway, 23-year-old Sara Hanson of San Francisco, the creator of Boobie Beanies, has sent multiple messages to Facebook so she can reinstate her business's page, and learn what exactly caused them to shut it down. She had more than 3,000 fans and the page removal is hurting her income. So far, no response. There's a Bring Back Boobie Beanie page, though, and many people have written letters.
Facebook, you suck. I just wish you had some competition that didn't also suck.
Do you think Facebook's treatment of moms is ridiculous? What do you think of them deleting the Boobie Beanie page?

Ok I only read the first two page of comments. From what I understand she is fighting for her page because she is not breaking TOS. There is no nudity which is why most pictures get taken down. It is a knit hat. If you didn't know what a boob looked like then you wouldn't even get the jist of the hat.
that video with the guys nipples is hilarious! facebook just has issues in general. I have seen soooo many sexy pictures or girls showing waaay more than bf pictures and men with no shirts on. people are dumb if they are offended.
I think the hats are ugly and disgusting looking, I would never, ever, want one for my child. But I don't thing that it should be deleted. I've seen cruder things on FB. I have 11 kids by the way and I have breastfed everyone of them wherever and whenever they needed it. I currently continue to breastfeed my 20 month son, but not too much in public because he likes drinking from his cup like a big boy.
I wish the US would get a grip and realize that our boobs are made to feed babies. If we can attract a man to help us make a baby with 'em, that's ok LOL but what would all the bottle feeding mothers do if suddenly there was some mad cow disease type thing in all the formula. It would suck to be those babies and mothers
Geez! Doews Zuckerman have a girlfriend? Or is he really still like the boy portrayed in the movie? I gave him some credit, but now I am taking it away.
Yeah Zuckerberg is asking for a discrimination lawsuit. When you go against your OWn TOS to target nursing mothers or BFing in general, you're discriminating. He's gonna wind up in court one day....
I think people have to report'/complain about the pictures and I dont get who would do that.
Though I wouldnt buy the hat (so tacky!) I could care less if other people do. How is the hat any more offensive then the boobs and butt cracks you see everyday!
I think the whole issue BF moms have here is that Facebook allows pics of women and teens to post pics with their boobs practically hanging out of their tank toms and such, but pics of a mom BF her child, who is only showing just as much, if not less, boob are being deleted all over the place, as well as pages dedicated to BF. It's discriminating against BF moms who are NOT violating the TOS anymore than the women with the 'sexy boob' pics. The TOS should be applied to everyone EQUALLY and not just be able to choose to discriminate against one particular group of people, which is what seesm to be happening now. Do a FB search on 'boobs' and you get a TON of pages about the sexualization of womens boobs, but BF gets the short straw. FB needs to be consistant and equal about this and they are NOT.
Facebook either needs to stop the deleting or at the very least SAY they do not want pictures of breastfeeding on the site or anything relating to breastfeeding. At least then, we'll know what the deal is but to just delete stuff without any specific information as to HOW something violated the TOS, it just doesn't help lessen the confusion.
I'm not going to touch the BF issue but I just have to say that the boobie beanies creep me out. First of all, I hate it when someone refers to my breasts a boobs, much less boobies. I'm not a 10 year old girl beginning to get breasts, I'm a full grown woman and I don't have boobies. Secondly, I think it's so creepy to have a boob on a babies head. There was that Mom Confession a while back about how she put her kid in a onesie with some suggestive wording (Daddy's squirts or something like that) and people freaked out about sexualizing babies. How is putting a breast hat on their head not sexualizing them? I find it creepy. That being said, I'm a breastfeeder so please don't bash me for saying the beanies gross me out a little bit.
