There have been a lot of surprising pregnancy announcements as of late in Hollywood, but perhaps none quite as surprising as the one Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban made today. Today they introduced their new baby -- a girl they named Faith Margaret Kidman Urban.
What, you didn't even know she was even pregnant? Me either, because she wasn't. The baby was conceived via a gestational carrier and born on December 28, according to People. Talk about a sweet surprise.
There have been no hints or clues or allusions, and then all of a sudden, a baby. There they were at the Golden Globes last night, while they had a new secret baby at home. Tricky, tricky.
"Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," the family said in a statement. "No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier."
Faith joins big sister Sunday Rose, 2 1/2, and Kidman's adopted children from her marriage to Tom Cruise, Isabella and Connor. Kidman has said in the past that she would like more children with Urban, and this summer said they were "not not trying" for more. So it's not another baby that's so surprising, just that she's here so quickly.
I love a good surprise, and with all the musings and obsession over every little stomach bubble in Hollywood, it's great to see the couple be able to somehow escape all that and enjoy their anticipation in private. The only other similarly stealth baby move that comes to mind is Sandra Bullock when she announced her adoption of baby Louis last year.
Congratulations to the family!
