Amazon; $27.95Oh, the weather outside is frightful in much of the United States. In fact, as of yesterday, 49 states had snow on the ground. Brrr ... and so much more of a challenge if you have a baby. Between the slippery sidewalks and frigid temperatures, winter requires a whole new arsenal of baby gear.
It means extra layers, and extra planning, and extra bulk, but unless you're in Florida -- the one state without snow -- you're going to need it if you intend to leave your house anytime soon. Even in Florida, temperatures have dipped, so those of us there can use some of it too.
Here are five things you need to go out with your baby when it's cold outside:
Hat We know how much heat can be lost through our head, so a hat for baby is a must. And while you're at it, it might as well be cute like this adorable chenille penguin hat.

Childrensneeds.com; $59.99
Babywearing Poncho If you wear your baby, this is the perfect layer now under a coat (with baby in front) and later as a light jacket when things warm up. It's cute too!

L.L. Bean; $49.50
Fleece Coveralls This one-piece outfit covers almost every inch of baby so they're warm and toasty and oh so snuggly.

UGG Australia; $50Booties Even if you think Uggs are ugly, you've got to admit they're adorable in teeny tiny sizes. While pricey, the sheepskin lining is extra warm, and you can find plenty of knock-offs as well.

Walmart; $89.96
Stroller Coat For an extra layer of warmth if you're going to be out and about, put a coat on your stroller. This one by Warm as a Lamb fits most strollers, is thermally insulated, and protects baby from all the elements. Now if only you could hop inside too!

The only one of the 5 that is actually a NEED for cold weather is a hat. The other stuff would be nice to have at times, but definitely not necessary. I live in Montana, my kids have snowsuits, boots, hats, mittens, and hot chocolate. THERE'S a much better list of the 5 things you need for the cold weather.
I love the cover that goes over the car seat, like the stroller one. If you have the baby in one of those, you don't even need a coat or hat on them. They keep the baby toasty warm.
Be sure that the fleece coveralls aren't too thick to interfere with the harness straps of the car seat. You don't want it too thick or the coveralls will compress in an accident leaving the harness straps in the car seat too loose and the baby could fall out of the car seat. Things like snowsuits with buckle hole or the JJ Cole BundleMe(or knock-offs) are highly UNSAFE. The only type of covers that are safe are the ones that go OVER the top of the infant seat like a shower cap. :)
that stroller coat is neat, i prefer to have one of those kangaroo pouches you put the kids on and zip them up, so much better than a blanket.
Cute hat!
I like the idea of the stroller coat - how innovative! Along that same line, many stroller brands provide a snuggy fleece seat insert to help keep baby warm. Other strollers such as the Zooper Waltz have included a foot muff, or boot, to cover your child like a sleeping bag for cold weather. I think these extra features or accessories wold be fabulous to have for the freezing winter, in addition to dressing warmly.
That is all so cute!
I love the baby pancho
I don't have any babies now. I always found it so tedious to outfit the little munchkins for cold weather.
