There is no couple in Hollywood more deserving of happiness than John Travolta and Kelly Preston. After losing their only son Jett tragically in 2009, the couple conceived and gave birth to their son Benjamin last year, who is now two months old.
Together, they show him off in this week's People magazine.
"He's given the house a renewed spirit and purpose," says Travolta, 56, who held Preston's hand during labor as their 10-year-old daughter Ella Bleu waited excitedly outside the room with actress Kirstie Alley, a close family pal.
It's hard to imagine the mix of emotions they must feel bringing home a new baby while they are still most certainly grieving their loss.
They told People that their home in Ocala, Florida is filled with "joy, lullabies from Dad ("A Bushel and a Peck," from the musical Guys and Dolls, is a favorite), readings of Good Night, Gorilla, and hugs from big sister Ella."
Remembering Travolta's voice and dance moves from movies past, Benjamin is a lucky little baby, but even more, it's nice to hear that there is joy in the house again. I would imagine that for a long time, joy was hard to come by in the Travolta house.
Having just seen the devastating Nicole Kidman movie Rabbit Hole about the aftermath of the loss of a child, I wouldn't fault parents for grieving in any way they have to. To see the Travoltas embrace life again is really a testament to the power of love and family.
According to People, they say their best moment for both parents so far has been Benjamin's first smile. My hope is there are many more to come.
