We're both on the list: Aiden & AubrieNo need to wait for the report from social security, CafeMom has the top baby name trends of 2010. After surveying over 47,000 new moms who birthed and named babies this year, we can definitively tell you what new trends are dominating the list, and what names are on their way out.
Who are the biggest trend setters in the baby name world? Not surprisingly, celebrities and what they choose to name their babes play a big role. But more important than the newest baby Stefani/Rossdale: You. Plugging in and chatting it up is making the baby name trends rise and fall more dramatically in the past few years than in the past decades as moms become more informed of their options.
Check out our top 50 boy and girl baby names and see how you made it all happen.
Celebrity:
Judging by baby names, Matthew McConaughey is hot, and Will Smith is not. Levi rose significantly on this year's list, but Jayden dropped like a hot potato. Do you think the Karate Kid remake had anything to do with that? On the girlie side, Zoe/Zoey made a huge leap and leave us wondering if Avatar star, Zoe Saldana, had anything to do with it, or the massive overexposure of Rachel Zoe. And the biggest gain obviously connected to a celebrity is the meteoric rise of Mason, which is also the name of Kourtney Kardashian's little boy who is constantly in the reality spotlight. Of course Twilight played a big part as well as Jacob remains high on the list of most popular baby names this year, and Isabella is being propped up by the close Bella association.
Savvy Moms:
But the most obvious trends in baby names this year comes from moms who are looking to be different than the other parents on the playground. Creative spellings (Madelyn) are popping up, and hip, cool, names of 2006, like Max and Sam, are slipping down the charts as new trends like Logan show up on the list. (The big exception being Isabella -- she continues her reign.) Being connected, whether through a mom's group in your neighborhood or online, means you hear all the names floating around and decide for yourself if it's awesome or overused.
