I receive a lot of catalogs for baby clothes and baby gear. Whether I'm interested in what they are selling or not, I always flip through them to see what is hot, new, or exciting -- or in this case, lame!
This is a Mac & Cool Quick Cooling Dish ($6.95). The description states you fill it with water and keep it in your freezer so you can place hot food on it to cool it down in 60 seconds.
Umm. Water? From your freezer? Like an ice cube? Alright, let's just say you don't want to use your ice cubes from your very own freezer, I can think of at least three other ways I could cool down my mac and cheese, including stirring it, blowing on it, or waiting 60 seconds before I put it in a bowl! It's crazy, right? Check out the other unnecessary baby feeding items I found:

This Squirt Baby Food Dispensing Spoon ($7.37) advertises that you "simply squeeze the bulb to dispense just the right amount of food. By combining the spoon and food container into one product, Squirt makes one-handed feeding a snap." I hate to tell you, but if your measure of success is whether or not you can feed your baby one-handed, you are doing it wrong.

The Baby Safe Feeder ($8.95) confuses me. If you think your baby would enjoy a fresh, juicy peach, but isn't ready for whole solids yet, why wouldn't you cut it into teeny tiny pieces and let them go to town? Also, once your baby has mouthed the life out of that peach, how do you get that mesh piece clean?

This is a hot dog slicer. ($6.95) Let me say that again: A hot dog slicer. Do I need to say more?

I can tell you from experience that if you buy one of these Divided Dish Six-Packs ($10.95 for set of two), it will look this pretty and organized for half of a second. Once your baby gets a hold of it, you'll be lucky if the food is still on the plate and not all over the floor or the high chair.
What is the most useless baby feeding gear you've tried?

I just put the the plate of food in the freezer for a few min lol and its does not cost a thing lol
i saw that ho dog slicer and i saw one for a banana too, seriously?! is it that damn hard to take a knife and cut it up? its a bitch to clean those little spaces!!!
I also kind of liked the mesh feeder thing...You just have to give it extra attention when washing versus other dishes.
My son had a lot of feeding issues, a lot of problems with his mouth and throat. When he was 1 1/2 he was still on stage 2 baby foods mostly because it was all he could handle. His therapist brought in the mesh feeder so that he could try real foods without being a choking hazard to him. It is a pain to clean, but he would get so excited when he would see that out because he knew he was going to get something new and tasty to try.
I love the mesh feeders. sAy what you will, but those things were great for us. It's not THAT hard to run it under water til its clean.
The divided plates are nice for picky kids that refuse to eat food that touches each other.
I loved the mesh feeder.
the baby safe feeder is kinda cool though. When baby is teething you put frozen fruit in it. Soothing to the gums & it tastes good. The freezer thing though you can do that w/out a fancy bowl. To speed cooling I have put a plate on top a ice pack. Works great. The separated tray, some older kids would like that. Especially kids who get weird about food touching.
