If you want to get 25 different answers to one question, ask your friends this: When is the right time to have a second (or third, or even fourth) baby?
Some parents think that the older your other children are, the better off you will be. You will be more experienced and the kids will be more independent when a baby arrives. Of course, that means that just when you get your older child potty trained and sleeping through the night, you will have to start all over again.
Others think having children close together will ensure they will be best friends for life, and that you can get out of the baby years a little faster. Although this also ensures you won't sleep for approximately three years straight.
So when is the better time? There are things to think about when considering another baby ....
That loud tick tock sound: We don't like to admit it, but your age is a factor. No one is saying you can't have kids into your 40s, but it's a fact that it can be more difficult to get pregnant at 45 than at 25.
Finances: We have two children in day care and our monthly childcare bill equals our mortgage payment! More children means more money for care, clothing, and college funds.
Lifestyles: Do you enjoy exotic locations or are you more of a homebody? Having children closer together means you'll reach the stage where plane trips and summer vacations become much easier than if you space them further apart.
Your relationship: Are you and your partner on the same page? Sometimes moms need more time than dads to be ready before taking on the whole gestational process again. Now is the time to talk about what you want -- and don't want -- honestly.
Parenting dreams: Did you grow up with a clear picture in your mind of your perfectly balanced family of six? If you did, you likely want to get pregnant more quickly. If you never really thought much about a big family, you probably don't need to be in a big rush.
Do you want another baby? Do you think it's better to have children close together or should you wait a few years?
